So now you can officially quarantine and get some rest. Stay hydrated and keep any fever you might have down with meds if needed. If either of you has difficulty breathing call 911. The taste and smell thing might last for a while, plus being stuffy doesn’t help. Come on here and let us know how you’re doing, we will help get you thru it!

It would be good for you to get tested and see a doctor. That said, it sounds like you're getting better, please keep us posted!

Just to be perfectly transparent, I'm less concerned about still being sick than I am about not being able to taste anything. What if my sense of taste doesn't come back? I mean, it's been 3 days....I'm really concerned!
I heard a story on NPR about that. I found it here too:
Some patients may suffer permanent smell loss if their olfactory neurons are destroyed. In those cases, there's evidence that training exercises, like daily inhalation of essential oils, could help people regain some of the sense.

WHY IN THE WORLD WOULD YOU TELL ME THAT. Please explain to me why you would tell me this. That completely just ruined my entire day. I'm never going to be able to smell or taste ever again :eek::eek::eek:

Oops...he was trying to help. Fact is, this is very rare, I'm sure you'll be OK, and btw. the flu and common cold viruses are known to cause this symptom as well, it's not a surprise to scientists. You'll get better!

I just don't understand why they would put that on here. It's very discouraging and I just literally bawled my eyes out about it because I'm a big baby. I don't want to lost my taste buds forever. I want to taste chocolate again. I want to taste salty and spicy foods again. I WANT TO SMELL THE GRASS AFTER IT RAINS AGAIN! This is absolutely terrifying. I was pretty much okay until now....UGH!

Yeah. It’s a forum for anxious people, it would drive me nuts as well. Believe me we are all coping the best we can and fall into catastrophizing all the time.

Your health and your senses will return to normal, i’m sure. I just heard Tom Hanks discuss his and his wife symptoms and how different they were... she lost her sense of taste as well and said everything tasted like oatmeal! But she is ok now and you’re a lot younger, so don’t fret too much, it’s a matter of a day or two.

Thanks for checking in on me everyone. I did officially test positive for COVID-19 this past Friday but I'm starting to feel so much better. Barely any cough anymore! I still can barely taste anything and I can't really smell anything either, so that stinks, but I've been reading that I should be getting that back soon so I'm staying hopeful. It's been almost a 2 week journey so I'm looking forward to feeling myself again. Please stay safe out there! This stuff is no fun and even if your body is younger and can fight it like mine did it's still not worth the risk! Take care of yourself and please remember others as well! I'll keep everyone updated if something comes up! I'm supposed to stay quarantined until Saturday and even then I have to be symptom free for 3 days before I can go out.

No I don't have health insurance until September 1 and I'm terrified of taking the test! My best friend has to take it every week for her job and she says it's horrible!
I had jt and my wife did too. For the overwhelming majority of people who get jt, you'll be fine and have mild to moderate symptoms. If you dont have any underlying health issues I think you should be ok. An in law with copd had it and was fine
