Worried that I won't be able to get a covid shot

I have had anaphylaxis before to injected medications, so at this time, I am in the group they are advising not to take the shot. I also have asthma, so I am high risk. I have complex ptsd, part of which is from the experience I had with anaphylaxis in the past.
The past few days, I am so stressed that I broke out in a cold sore. Between holidays isolated from loved ones and a fear that I will have to stay inside for years to come or worse if there is no shot I will be able to take or if I will now be too terrified to take any covid shot even if they tell me it's safe eventually because I live in fear of anaphylaxis, especially from medications.
I don't know what it is I'm looking for here, just someone to listen I guess. This is just really stressful and hard because a shot was supposed to be the light at the end of the tunnel. Yesterday, I broke down crying.

If it was me I would wait and see how others react to the shot first. It is not a miracle cure. The one been used in the UK does not stop people catching Covid. Much like the flu shot, it just lessens the blow should you catch it. For the moment there is no miracle shot that will stop a person catching Covid. Those who get the shot still have to follow all the normal rules they had been following all through 2020. Social distancing and mask wearing. I would guess it may be the Summer, at the earliest, before a better vaccine comes along.

I live in KY, USA. Our positivity rate is about 8.5 %. My mom has copd. She still goes to work everyday at 64 years old. I still get out everyday to work. People have died in my county. All of them had terrible health problems or were already in a nursing home. All above 60. Now about anaphylaxis. The docs already know what to watch for! It usually occurs immediately and can be reversed rather easily so, I wouldn't worry so much about that. I don't plan on getting vaccinated at all but that's just me. I've known numerous people to have it, and say it's not much more than the common cold. The older you are it becomes more of a pneumonia/bronchitis type illness. Now just for reference, my job is a glass glazer and commercial door installer. I've touched more door handles and been around so many people I cannot count. I don't know whether or not I've had it. I rarely truly get sick (knock on wood) and I usually make it out to be much worse. I've already wasted 20 years of my life dealing with what ifs and anxiety. I'll be damned If I let something like this hold my life in limbo. If it were Ebola or an airborne version of HIV, probably. I don't know your age. I've got friends that were 50 who have said it was terrible as far as coughing and fever. And they even smoked. But there still working right along. I don't know how to say the right thing, but I can say as a hypochondriac I haven't overly worried one time about this virus. I don't know why, but I think it's because, I know the truth does not lie in numbers. Numbers lie. Personal accounts are what really matter. A word of advice. If you never knew the virus had a name and you got pneumonia and lost your sense of taste and smell a day or two, what would you do? You'd probably take some meds and go on, right? That is a humans only choice. Take care

Thank you for the encouragement!

I'm on the east coast and know several people who have had it also. They had it to varying degrees. And some had severe cases and needed to be hospitalized. Some are still sick from March. Some of my friends lost loved ones.

As for the example of pneumonia, if I got pneumonia, I don't know how I'd handle it. I get a flu shot due to being at a higher risk of death if I get pneumonia. And this is deadlier and less predictable than the flu, so it's not a comparison in my mind.

I'm glad to hear that the people you know are ok after getting sick and that you are able to put it out of your mind more or less. In my case though, I haven't been anywhere that isn't my home, nor seen anyone who isn't my spouse for nearly a year due to covid. So, this has been very hard for me.
