I wanted to share one of the tools that helped me overcome depression.
I joined a local charity and started assisting street children in a shelter. A friend suggested I try it and I noticed very quickly how helpful the advice had been.
I was amazed and inspired by the love and joy I found amongst children that had absolutely nothing aside from the rags they called clothes. The true gratitude they showed worked it's way in to my life and affected how I saw my life. It brought perspective and offered me a new set of lenses through which I now view my world.
We have so much to be thankful for and depression often robs us of the ability to see that. Helping others restores a true view of your own self worth and shifts the attention from I to we.
