Well not yet, but we have an appt in a couple weeks to check out my wife's pregnancy, how baby looks etc...and because of covid im wondering if anyone will take our temp upon entering.

My worry is that i will have a fever and feel fine, but will have something sinister underlying.

Health anxiety is nice isn't it...

Well EB, from one father to another... your going to have to suck it up and do it for your wife and soon to be child.

This is no longer about you and you cannot skip out on these appointments because of being afraid to get your temp taken.

If you have a fever, you will know it.

If you have a fever, you need to get yourself taken care of for your family.

You need to be healthy for your family and that means doing things you don’t normally like to do.

You will be fine. I promise.

I wasn’t trying to get you down, just trying to get you thinking in a different way.

If something is wrong with you, wouldn’t you like to know?

Like I said in my post, if you have a fever, you will know it. Your not going to walk up feeling fine and dandy with a 102 fever.

Your perfectly fine!

I agree! Go to the appointment, don't let anxiety stop you. It'll be fine.

Oh I know that feeling too well. The feeling of “what if I have a fever but I don’t even feel sick but something is going on”. Whenever I walk through a temperature taking check point, I start freaking out that I’ll read high and something is going on.
I’ve had 2 doctors appointments this past month and both times, the forehead thermometer marked me at high temperature. Obviously I started freaking out - the nurse checked me again with a different thermometer in the mouth and I marked lower.
What I’m getting at is I know the fear you’re going through. But don’t let HA beat you on this, you’ll regret it later on missing out on baby appointments over HA. Just go and get it taken.
Or why not buy a thermometer that way you can take your temperature right before going in and then you’ll know you’re fine and ready for when you get checked at the doctors office.
God bless you.

Unfortunately I have had for probably over 25 years an enormous fear of going to the doctor, and because of that besides a life threatening accident in 07 I have not had any type of doc looking at me for that long. I just don't see how I could go and get a routine physical, blood drawn, etc...i honestly don't see it. The waiting, anticipation, etc...

I've been there. Until 2015, I hadn't visited a doctor, let alone had a physical, in over a decade. I finally mustered up just enough courage to go, and I'm so glad I did. It really put my mind at ease in a lot of ways.

I second this. I have gone periods of not going to the Doctor or Dentist to the point where I was sure something was wrong and I was afraid to go. But once I did and realized I was okay, it felt so good and now I grow regularly as much as possible.. usually every 12 - 18 months.

You'll probably regret it so much if you don't go. I know it's not easy. But don't let anxiety rob you of this!

Anxiety, for me specifically health anxiety causes one to act selfish.

Funny part is I have no idea whether temp would even be taken.

I guess at least call the facility and find out; if not you'll probably want to go.

Man my BP goes through the roof when I go to the Dr.... It's normal for us anxious folk!!!! I'm talking like 170/100. It's called white coat syndrome. I psych myself out and bam high BP! Take it at home, 130ish/65ish. I hate it too. Just breathe.

What about 100/101...would you feel bad?

Depends entirely on the person and the cause of the fever. I personally feel pretty crappy when my temp hits 99.5°F or above. Others may not necessarily notice until 101°F or higher. But you'll be fine.

That's actually something that can be caused by anxiety - the face flushing/hotness - but it's just because blood is rushing to your face/head, not necessarily because your body temperature is spiking! I agree with the others, if you had a fever you'd probably feel relatively unwell.

Since it's a medical facility, they probably will take temperatures when you go in as a precaution. Worst case scenario - they take your temp and you have a slight fever - they just won't let you in! Fevers are usually just an indication that your body is fighting some sort of infection - even if you had one, it's unlikely that there's a sinister cause behind it.

Does your wife know how you feel about this? Maybe there's something she can do to help alleviate your worries, or to help you feel more comfortable in the moment. I'm sure she'd love to have you there. And keep in mind - it takes them maybe 1 second to check your temperature. Just one second and it's all over! I know it seems scary now, but try to imagine a positive scenario: you get checked, you don't have a fever, and you're able to support your wife and be there for this important checkup!

Do you have a thermometer at home? I think someone already suggested it, but if you got a thermometer you could take your temperature at home and that way you would know that your temperature is just fine. Your temperature won't suddenly spike 3-4 degrees on the way there :)
I hope you decide to conquer your fears and go...you can do this!

Thanks for the reply...yes she does know how i feel and would be devastated if i didn't go, but she has always been very supportive of my anxieties...ive actually been having her feel my head and guesss the temps the last couple days. Funny a couple of weeks ago before i knew about the appt she felt my head and said you feel hot! Sent me into panic , and like most i think didnt realize why it caused fear. I do have a thermometer at home and have contemplated taking it however haven't.

Ive investigated whether they will check temp all but calling them and i have found kind of a maybe/maybe not...my wife said when talked to the doc before this that they would ask questions but can't remember about the temp check. I know our local hospital has stopped temp checks.

My wife felt my head last night again and claims my temp is good. She takes temps where she is. Would her touch be accurate? I actually just read where a hand is almost better then the forehead infrared test.

I do this with my kids... you can tell.

If they feel warm with my hands, I then take their temp to confirm.

if she says you feel fine and you feel fine... then you are fine. Walks like a duck, quacks like a duck...
