So it seems like one of my favorite hobbies is torturing myself, because I keep reading stories of people who had this virus and how bad it was...you can barely breathe, the fever makes you delirious, and your energy is completely gone.
Yet my parents and sister are completely unbothered. They're not worried at all and when they leave they house, they don't even listen to me when I tell them to wear masks. Its just really frustrating, because clearly they'll only start taking it seriously when one of us is infected. I'm annoyed because I'm trying hard to protect myself, but i might still get it anyway just because they were careless! My mom in particular just doesn't care and she's even making dumb jokes about it, shes also not even worried about keeping my grandmother safe. like honestly if I could go live somewhere on my own I would

They don’t need to wear masks when going out, unless they are sick. That has been stated over and over.
I understand your anxiety, as I struggle all the time, but the truth is, our anxiety makes this worse for us.

What can you do when your partner doesn't accept it's a problem and doesn't support you when you're worried because you suffer from asthma!

I'd worry about yourself at this point.
If you're so worried about their health
Did you know that over 600,000+ Americans this year will die from heart disease? Or 1 in 4.

Lol i am worried about their health because I do not want them to infect, so yes I AM worried about myself. Also what does heart disease have to do with anything?!?

Heck if you saw people in Ireland. The beaches packed. Not even warm. But that is were people decided to head for. No distance at all between people. You will get that with a lot of people. No school. No work. Will post a picture of one beach in Dublin. Keep in mind that Dublin makes up over 50 percent of the cases here in Ireland. Next closest is Cork with 18 percent. But you still have idiots not listening.

Last week at the food pantry that I volunteer at, one of the other volunteers came to the pantry, even though he had a cough.

He should have stayed home.

It's just another example of certain people not taking this pandemic seriously.

yes, see THAT is common sense and showing a lack of it. I’m not much on the idea of going around wearing a mask that could be worn by some nurse or doctor trying to save someone’s life

Unfortunately, some of those who aren't taking the coronavirus seriously will find out that they were wrong.

I understand where you’re coming from, It’s the same with my mum. She’s at high risk and falls under the vulnerable category but she still goes out to do unimportant things. She knows the extent to how deadly this virus is but her actions are the complete opposite.I received a text today from gov.uk that new rules are in force, everyone must stay home now. Hopefully this will finally stop them from going out, so don’t be too anxious and don’t stress too much. None of you will be infected, you’ll all be safe.

Unfortunately no matter how serious it gets there will probably always be people who think it’s not bad and everyone is overreacting. My brother believes he’s some kind of genius apparently, as he barely reads the news about it but still in very confident in thinking that it’s not serious. I’m not sure if it’s ignorance or self-assurance. Have you heard of the Florida spring breakers? They went out to a vacation for spring break because they didn’t think there was anything to worry about. All of them tested positive for the Coronavirus when they came back. But anyway, I think the best thing you can do is stay clean and try your best to protect yourself even if your family doesn’t.

understandable. Our state was sort of closed about a week ago, but 2 days ago, all non essential businesses were ordered to close as well. Do keep this in mind though... the mortality rate still isn’t high. Here in the U.S. it’s a little less than 1%. That doesn’t mean it doesn’t need to be taken seriously. What it does mean is that there’s A LOT of people and not enough medical supplies... yet. Thus, slowing the spread down can all us to treat more who need it. Less chances of running out of those needed medical supplies, if less people have it. How do we achieve this? Stay your ass inside unless it’s necessary to go somewhere. I only leave now to pick up my son. I pick him up, come home... that’s it.

I guess try to stay in a room away from them as much as you can! Before my husband quit working I was getting ready to go move into the garage. No joke!
Not sure why people start spitting statistics of completely irrelevant things people die from. I'm scared to death of this disease and could really give a **** less about people dying from car accidents, overdoses or heart disease.

I'm sorry to hear you're going through that. I'd be going nuts if somebody in my household was blowing it off.

I won't even order a package to be mailed to me without seeing that the place has COVID-19 measures in place, then telling my family and making sure they're okay with it coming into our house. It actually won't come into our house until it has been on the balcony for a day to let any possible contamination die off. If that's more than is necessary, I'd rather err that way than doing less than necessary.

WOW! I just can't understand it. Sure people are getting cabin fever but where's their common sense??

OP, I'm sorry that your family isn't taking this seriously. If there was a time for rational, levelheaded, non anxious people to be serious it would be now. If it provides you some relief focus on what you CAN control. Washing your hands frequently, staying home, getting to bed early (can't emphasis this one enough!), eating well and trying to stay calm as getting anxious does not help your immune system. You can't control the actions of others but you can do everything you can to stay well.
