Oh no! Is there someone you might have been around who could have had it? Are you able to get a test?
A few weeks ago, we thought my husband had been exposed and we distanced and wore masks around the house for a while to make us feel better. It was very stressful. I’m sorry to hear of your anxiety, I totally understand and have felt that about COVID.

Remember to take care of yourself just in case you are getting sick. Vitamin C and rest if you can. Best of luck!

Retail is a really difficult place to be right now :( I’m sorry to hear that. Is there a way you can access a test to set your mind at ease? It’s likely if you wear a mask and aren’t talking face to face with anyone for more than 15 minute that you should be ok. There’s many other things, esp this season, that could easily cause those symptoms. But it’s not a bad thing to be wary in this situation I think.

I have anxiety over the test and vaccine so only really keen to get either if I really really have to.

I feel that a thousand percent. I’ve been so scared of that deep nose test thingy. It looks horrible and having my nose or face blocked in any way is a huge anxiety trigger. Soon there should be an easy one you can do at home that’s way less intrusive, not sure if those are available yet. Can you lay low for a few days and just do some extra self care? I know it’s near impossible to take time off work in retail, but if you can.

Thanks yes maybe and the saliva tests would really make life easier once they become available perhaps they can be an alternative to having a vaccine maybe

Breath is the one thing that is ruled by our autonomic nervous system (fight/flight center) that is also controllable by us consciously. Do you practice mindful breathing ever? For me, this can be really helpful and I rely on it heavily. We have been under extreme stress about covid for almost a year now and that is a deep trauma. Whenever I get caught up in that anxiety, I try to remind myself that anxiety and trauma can make me feel sick and I try to give myself the benefit of the doubt and rest. I don’t know if that’s helpful :/ if you’d like some breath practices, I’m more than happy to share what’s helped me, but our relationship to our breath is unique to us so something that calms me down might hype your system up. If you don’t have high blood pressure, you can lay on the floor by a wall or couch and put your legs up against the wall or on the couch. Inversions help bring the system into rest mode and it might help clear your head to let the logic in a little stronger.

Phil could this be a knock on effect from the whole vaccine thing? Which is not something they can ever make you get. I think since day 1 of this whole thing I have thought I had coughs and sore throats. I hate those mouth coverings. They dry my mouth and throat out. Make me cough. But you have gotten some great advise above. How has the whole OCD thing been about Covid? I can't imagine it to be a great thing with a pandemic going on.

Phil, hop over here and scroll down and watch the video. Help you relax some.

Thanks my ocd is still about bin germs still worried the ground is dirty as my mum brought a present to house where she touched her wheelie bin then present. My ocd isn’t too bad about the hand washing or anything COVID related luckily. My ocd isn’t good though as I do worry about bin germs a lot. And yes well I have only worried twice about COVID luckily so it did pass. I have a daily worrying every day I worry my time is up it’s pretty awful but I went for cbt and she never got back and the one I seen previously ignored me too. So sadly I feel a little lost and just suffer every day right now.

Thanks that’s interesting. Today I have been focused on my breathing all day it feels shallow and panicy like a panic attack only it seems to last all day is this normal? In my head I’ve been obsessed with covid and how it can affect your breathing so my anxiety has been through the roof.
I’ve been having panic attacks at work usually only lasts one hour but today I was starting later in the day and googled covid all morning. I had a sore throat and I coughed once but never again today but the sore throat has been better I was told it probably wouldn’t be a symptom a sore throat anyway.

Anyway since about 12pm I’ve been obsessed with my breathing focussed on it feels shallow or like a panic attack. It’s passed for a hour or so during the day but I’ve been working until 8pm tonight and still feel anxious. Usually the anxiety attack doesn’t last all day my breathing is on my mind as I raise covid can stop u breathing correctly. Maybe the tightness in my nose is the common cold due to the sore throat but can anybody reassure me?

It sounds like a lot of overthinking is happening and maybe focusing on the breath is something you might want to work on letting go of right now. Other types of relaxations can be something like this: close your eyes and focus on what you can hear, notice loud and quiet sounds outside of your body, then after a minute or so, shift to noticing sensations on your skin like the temperature of the air, texture of your clothing.

Or if that doesn’t serve you well, maybe sip tea or eat something that would soothe your throat like ice cream, soup or even a throat lozenge and consider the flavor and the texture and temperature of what it is your eating. Creating mindfulness around something that isn’t your breath can be calming to your body which might alleviate some of your other anxiety. One of the things I hate most about chronic anxiety is it’s ability to make your body feel sick even when it’s not actually. I hate it for you that you’re suffering in this way. It’s hard to carry this particular covid anxiety around for so many months. I’m cheering for you! I hope you can say at least one really genuinely kind word to yourself today, too, you will get through this and come out stronger.

Thanks yes I am over thinking. I seen a therapist a few months back but she never got back to me again. I feel depressed each day and worry about my health and dying each day it’s hard to break the cycle. It doesn’t help when I can’t go holidays or do anything fun with covid. I know how important it is to keep my mind busy but like I say when you can’t do much it’s very limiting. It’s been since March but feels much longer I can barely remember being able to do anything nice my cinema and bowling alley shut months ago. Not been aboard in over a year. I want it be positive about 2021 but they keep saying things will get better but now they are saying 2022 so I may be in for another hard year that’s my worry too. A third wave of Covid and it could be 2020 part 2?

Covid has ruined the year. You have your football on the TV. Some fans been allowed back into games again. Case of trying to make the most of what we have. Not sure if you ever read a book or do any other sort of hobby that can be done in the house? Something to fill up the hours. I love jigsaws. Just something to do. Even a bit of gaming. Anything at all would work. Just so you are not sitting around doing nothing at all. If we just sit around the mind begins to wander off with negative thoughts.

Today was a better day I made work and was very relaxed. Sadly the anxiety attacks come on anytime and around 12am tonight I focused on my throat it went tight again and worried it was dry and worried about covid again. How can I control these anxiety attacks?

Might not be covid, and if it is.... I'm sure you'll be fine. I just got over covid...I never had a sore throat or a cough!

When you are doing things you are relaxed. That should tell you what you need to be doing. To keep your mind busy. Then your problems go away. Around 12am you focused on your throat and back it came. When you were not focused on it, it was not there. You have all the right answers in your own wording. Just have to use them the right way. Don't focus on your throat. Find something other than yourself to focus on.
