My partners mum was visiting and the bucket went out we never put it out my partner said it was maybe a neighbour but my ocd makes me worry it was her mum? Her mum denied it but I won’t believe it. I had a similar ocd a year ago when my mum out an envelope through my door I got paranoid it came from the bin and I wouldn’t use the letter box or I would only allow certain stuff through it. This time I’m worried about my partners mums car or her coming here spreading germs? No proof she took it out but I just become consumed by the idea she did? The wheelie bin had a toilet plunger in it which made me worry more

It is probably a bit pointless trying to reason with you. As you have this idea in your head now. People put wheelie bins out every week and are fine after they do so. I put ours out every week. Never does me any harm at all. This is something you would have to try and make yourself believe in order for things to get better for you. It is all up to you. My words won't change a single thing. You thinking is creating the problem. Change that and the problem goes away.

I have suffered a problem for a while believing everything is forever contaminated. I struggle to deal with this.

Hi Phil. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy can be very helpful for OCD. Early on in my anxiety treatment I had elements of OCD as well. Cuchculan is right, logic and reason doesn't work, because its the thought patterns under all that which need to be addressed. Disgust and contagion are deeply rooted emotions, probably second only to fear in their primal drives on behavior. That knowledge opens the door to addressing them though, if you can find methods for dealing with them in a more healthy way. Its perfectly understandable that those thoughts are so troublesome; you can also recognize that they are irrational and interfering with your relationships and peace of mind.
