when i have intense feelings about someone i think of quotes that help me move past. ive got other things like doing physical ritual- writing a letter to him/he then crumpling it up and throwing it in the bin.

do you guys have any other suggestions? im just interested i want to expand my knowledge as i want to be a psycologist and also help me work through problems

I personally practice detachment, to an extent, as taught by Buddhism. If you're up for it, do some research about detachment and what it means, and how to practice it. Wikipedia sums it up quite well: detachment "is being detached from one's thoughts. It is to separate oneself from one's own thoughts and opinions in detail as to not be harmed mentally and emotionally by them."

Just focus on one thing at a time. Easier said than done. Say you have ten things to do. Together they might all look hard. If you look at them one at a time, they will not seem as hard. Just do one thing first. Forget about all the other things. Until you finish that one thing. So we learn to focus on the here and now. What we are doing at this moment only. Not what we did yesterday. Not what we will do tomorrow. Buddhism again. Smart people.
