I wonder how many of us have been in the desert and seen an oasis in the distance? I have while in Egypt and it is a strange phenonema. It appears on the horizon as a watering hole with all the palm trees and pools of water. The watcher may be thirsty so he/she begins to walk toward it, but the more progress they make the more the oasis recedes. We know it is a refraction caused by heat, but we go on pursuing it becuse we may be desperate.
Anxiety is like that. It's all one big con, but our belief in it is so strong we can't seem to reason it away.
Of course, any phyical symptoms should be checked out, but once told we are ok physically then believe them and work on the anxiety.
Like the mirage, it will not go away if we keep running toward it. Stop! Take stock of your situation and see it all for what it is, fear based anxiety. In HA illusions are endless. But like all physical anxiety symptoms it's just not true. Why do we beleive it all? Fear! Fear is always at the root of anxiety and is always the cause.
So to sum up we are afraid of an illusion. Sounds crazy and it is. I do know becuse when I had GAD and HA I too believed my symptoms rather than my doctor. The mind will absorb suggestion if it is sensitised by fear.
Recovery lies in seeng the illusion for what it is however real it may seem and accepting it all with no reaction.
Now it is very difficult not to react to something that seems so powerful, but recovery does lie there. Stop adding fear to fear. Stop Googling. Stop seeking reassurance that only gives 'IT' identity which it does not have. An illusion has no identity, but it can appear to have if we allow it. Yes, allow it. We do have choices. Who has more intelligence, you or 'IT'?
