Tailbone pain

I’ve been having low back pain that worsens when bending forward and standing up straight again, along with intense tailbone pain. Any idea why my tailbone would be hurting so bad just out of the blue? I haven’t had any accidents or injuries. The area is tender to the touch and gives off sharp pain when lying down or leaning against it. I’m seeing an orthopedist tomorrow but am nervous this could be something serious. I have a big fear of losing the ability to walk. The pain radiates around my hip joints but doesn’t really feel like sciatica.

It could still possibly be sciatica. I experience this occasionally as well, and my doctor suspects some sciatica. My brother has been formally diagnosed and he, too, feels this sometimes. If that's not it, it's probably just bruised somehow, or something along those lines. It happens.

Thanks!
I went to an Orthopedist today. He took a basic X-ray of my lower back. He said structurally everything looked really healthy. He’s referring my to physical therapy and I’ll see him again in 6 weeks. If things haven’t improved, he’ll do an MRI. He said it sounds muscular/soft tissue. I’m trying to keep my anxiety in check but it is really painful and as usual I’m afraid this will never go away and I’ll be miserable forever.

I can understand why you're worried or frustrated. I'm sure a lot of us would feel the same way! I'm glad you had the appointment and it went well. I also hope PT works for you and you can feel better soon!

Out of curiosity, how do you and your brother handle flare ups?

He's been seeing a chiropractor and I believe he's done physical therapy as well. His case is much worse than mine, however. For me, it's not all that frequent and it doesn't hinder my physical abilities, so I just let it be.
