Since yesteday evening the pulse on either side of my neck has become visible. If i look in the mirror i can see my skin move up and down in time with the pulse, and when i touch my neck i can easily feel how hard the pulse is beating there. Normally i don't feel or see anything at all which really has me freaked out. It terrifies me that it could be a sign of heart issues or a blood clot. What could be going on here??

I have been dealing with something very similar the past couple days actually. My pulse is usually around 70 and for the past couple days it has been over 100. Sometimes even hitting the 140 mark. I have been absolutely beside myself, however I have come to find a few things out.

Number one, I am personally just getting over a chest cold and I found out that any illness in the body can elevate the heart rate because it is working harder to try to fight whatever it is that is ailing you.

Number two, anything you put into your body can effect your heart rate. For example, I have a very bad coffee habit. I drink probably 10 cups a day and have been really bad lately. I realize I need to cut out caffeine or atleast lower my intake because it has a direct link to your heart rate.

Number 3, anxiety of any kind tells your heart to work faster because of the fight or flight response. Fast heart means more oxygen to your muscles which means a better chance of fighting or running away. It is a natural normal response. The more you work yourself up the higher your heart rate will be.

Number 4, If your heart was really under a ton of stress due to a blockage or heart attack or something that serious, you would be in a world of trouble by now. You said this happened yesterday evening. Your heart is not going to deal with a blockage or stoppage for hours/days without you passing out and being rushed to the hospital.

Do you still see this visible pulse in your neck?

You probably just never noticed it before. HA can make us hyper aware of things and we think it’s something new but it has actually been there all this while.

I notice that some times in the vein in my wrist it creeps me out to. I normally try not to look at it. Like someone else mentioned you probably just didn't notice it before. If your blood pressure is normal or "probably" at this time a little elevated from stress then I'm sure you are fine. You would be having physical problems if it was a clot.

The original post is a year and a half old, and the member hasn't been on the site since that time either... :)
