While my anxiety isn’t new, I’ve finally come to terms with this being my normal. I keep longing to return to my old life before this wretched anxiety came. I can’t waste time or effort hoping things will return. They can’t. I must deal with what life had given me.

No, just not true. You can recover but if you have the 'put up with it ' mindset then it will stay with you. Coming to terms with 'IT' gives it an identity which it does not have.
You don't want to return to your old life becuse that was the life that got you where you are now. Anxiety always has a cause. You say things can never return to normal, but what is'normal'? Do you think those around you are 'normal'? Think again. I often feel that those with anxiety are far more normal than those so called 'normal' ones.
We are the ones who can become better people by going through the pain of anxiety
Yes, you must deal with what you have been given, but do so in a positive and helpful way. Our attitude to our illness is very important. If we give up on 'IT' then 'IT' will rule our lives. NEVER regard anxiety as being 'normal'. It is never that. But it is normal in the circumstances we create for it. Anxiety is always fear based, it must be. Your reactions are based on your fear of 'IT'. What is 'IT'? It's a miasma, an illusion that seems so real. There are no physical tests for anxiety and can only be diagnosed by our behaviour and attitude. Take heart. I have seen so many recover it never surprise me. We need to 'go through it', not 'get over it'. By 'going through it' we learn so much about ourselves. By 'getting over it' we return to what we always were, vulnerable to fear and recuring bouts of anxiety.

I have had some actual health issues. I have had basal cell carcinoma, fractured thoracic vertebrae, ulcer in my esophagus, an eye disease ongoing, and dizziness every day for 6 weeks. I try not to think about the past, although it is hard sometimes. My father used to say to me (may he rest in peace) look forward and don't look back as you can't change anything and it does not do any good beating yourself up over past mistakes or worries.
