Please if anyone can read this share your thoughts I’d appreciate it so much. Here’s the story, at some point in the last 6-12 months I noticed a new mole/growth on my calf. I’m not sure what it was. It didn’t really look like Melanoma to me based on online pictures but it was definitely odd it was small like size of pencil eraser maybe a little smaller than that. Black/reddish. Circular mostly. It was a raised mole. I tried setting up appointment with dermatologist and it was several months wait to see one. About 5 weeks ago I was in my bathroom and FOOLISHLY used some compound w wart freeze I had on it for about 40 seconds. It blistered scabbed and fell off. Now there’s just a red bump in the mole’s exact size and shape in its place. As soon as I did it I realize how stupid that was to do and started googling. My main fear is that if it was cancer I’ve totally hidden the surface of it and ruined any chance to get it properly diagnosed and treated.

This week I saw a dermatologist finally. I called them and basically said I have to be seen immediately and they moved me up a few weeks and got me in. The dermatologist didn’t seem concerned with how I described the mole and she said all we can do is wait and watch it if it grows back go see her again. I was hoping she could still biopsy it somehow but I guess not. I feel so stupid for having removed it and now I can’t get a proper diagnosis unless it grows back.

my sister in law is an MD (not a derm though) and she basically told me the same that if it’s something bad it’ll grow back and become obvious again and I can go get it looked at again then. I trust her and the derm but neither of them actually saw the mole before I froze it off, which I know is my fault completely.

I sort of hope it does grow back so I can go get it properly diagnosed.I can’t stop worrying about it being cancer. And my main fear is that the roots are still there and it will spread without ever reappearing on the surface. I’ve found a few fringe articles saying that is possible and I can’t shake the idea.

I’m 28 Male no history of skin cancer. The derm did a full body exam and everything else looks good. I am seeing that same derm again July 9th because she’s treating something else for me on my foot that needs a follow up so I’m going to ask her again about the mole that day and ask her definitively if it can be punch biopsied even though I removed it.

believe me I’ll definitely be getting 12 month skin checks the rest of my life and I’ll never remove anything myself again that for sure. All this anxiety could’ve been avoided if I’d just been patient and waited for a derm to see it.
