Has anyone went to an impatient facility for treatment of their anxiety? I am.in counseling and it is NOT helping. I'm at a loss on what the next step should be. I am currently laying in bed waiting for meds to.kick in and praying this anxious feeling subsides. Any encouraging words?

Think the thing about treatment for anxiety is what one person considers good treatment. I have been a lot of places over the years. Even a psych hospital for a few months. Treatment might vary in all these places. But the end goal is still the same. Only one I ever liked was a mad doctor who would want me to try certain things and he would also do the same things. His way of saying ' If you are doing it, I will do it too '. Making me hyperventilate on purpose to show me how to calm back down. Only what he made me do, he done along with me. It was more like a hand's on approach. You don't get that in many places at all. Most places either give you medication or simply make you talk. Which can grow a bit boring after so many visits. Hence to have a person show you what to do and how to do it was different. Come the end of the day it is all down to use. That is the bottom line. We have to do the hard work. Most times by ourselves. Be good if you could find a person willing to teach you new things. Teach you by showing you what is meant to happen. Rather than just talking. Only so much talking we can do.

I have talked til I'm blue in the face. Meds aren't working g and I am constantly scared I'm having a heart attack. I'm so tired of feeling this way. I wish I could find a doctor that would take a different approach.

Are you going to a therpist for CBT? There are other therapies besides CBT (can’t recall their abbreviations) that also work for OCD type tendencies. If you are just talking about it that won’t help. My therapist gave me tools and printouts and notes I could carry with me so when I was starting to feel anxious about something I would have a prescribed way to respond to it. If you just started meds give them some time and maybe try therapy when you’re in a better place to learn. When anxiety is high your brain only thinks fight or flight, it’s not as able to absorb and learn what a therapist might be suggesting.

I am doing CBT. I have mood logs, journaling, and other kind of activities to try to find my "triggers" but they just aren't working anymore.

You need to help yourself heal. This is mostly mental you need to try to be more positive. Get up and start doing the stuff that you remember doing when you felt happy. Just get out and get some sun you'd be surprised how much better just sitting in the sun could make you feel. " don't forget to wear sunscreen" Or simply just sitting outside on a warm day and feeling a cool breeze it feels so great and is very uplifting. Go outside when the sun starts to go down that's my favorite time of the day. Another thing that is uplifting and mood changing is exercise and a healthy-ish diet. When you change your behavior and start to be more positive it'll make a huge difference in the way you feel. You will begin to enjoy life again. Do not give up!

I'm trying so hard! I am spending time outside. Unfortunately, we have had so many people pass away in the last 2 months starting with my dad. It just keeps breaking me down. I am.on medication and in counseling. I am REALLY trying to get better.

Maybe just give yourself some grace and realize you’re mourning your dad and the others that passed and know that it’s hard but will get better. Keep doing what you’re doing and that might have to be enough for right now.

That is how it always feels when you start to go back out. You are hit with all these feelings you would normally run away from. It can be frightening. Keep that in mind. By going out you are letting these bad feelings come on. That alone is very brave. Most people wouldn't even do that much. But understand they are just feelings. As much as we hate them. As much as they make us feel bad. They are all just feelings. So I think you are doing a great job getting out and about. It is never easy. If it was everybody would be doing it. Maybe listen to some music when you are out. Ipod or MP3 player. Just something you can focus on. But remember we all have bad days too. You might do great one day. The next day might be a bad day. That happens. Small amounts at a time. You are doing great. You are leaving your house. That is the first step. Remember to give yourself some credit for these things too. They are hard for you as a rule. But you are trying to face up to them. Credit again were credit is due.

Thank you!! Life is hard and I just want to keep being a good mom and show my kids that they can count on me.

I am sure you are a great mother. It is never easy. You are doing your best. Small bit every if possible. The odd day off here and there. Have to learn to walk before we learn how to run. So just keep your spirits up and do what you know you can do. There will be both good and bad days. But all your efforts will be worth in the end. You are doing a great job just for at least trying. Loads of people wouldn't even do that much. Keep up the good work. Never be too hard on yourself.
