I can't wait to move out of here.

So basically I'm 16 and I wanna leave my house, so bad. Like move. And I fully plan on living alone once I turn 18. I realize it might not be the safest option out there. I am non-binary, though AFAB. So presenting feminine most times won't do me any favors. I think I have the general idea, but what essentials do I need for a home for one? Excluding furniture needs, that's what the thrift store is for.

Mm - think about things that live in supply closets and cleaner cabinets and junk drawers! A broom/vacuum, mop, flashlight, lighter, first aid stuff like ibuprofen and Band-Aids, wash clothes, towels, rags, plunger/toilet bowl scrubber, and storage containers like Rubbermaids.

Mostly, though, you need a good support system and people and things that help you feel safe and joyful. I hope you're doing ok today.

I would say think about the cost of living. Bills to pay. Food to eat. Rent on the place you intend to live in. It all adds up. I live at home and I couldn't tell you how much I fork out on bills alone. We split things here. Is a lot of money. Just make sure you can afford to move out and live in the big world. On top of all that you will need other things in your new home. Place to sit and sleep. Place for clothes. Something to cook on. All money and even more money.

I've rarely known someone who can afford to live entirely independently at 18. But if you have the means, go right ahead and enjoy it!

I definitely don't have the money at this moment. But I am on the job hunt. I plan on working two part times or one full time, and making and saving the money I need to get out of my house.

That's fine. I'm just speaking from experience when I say it's not as easy as it looks / sounds. Everyone starts somewhere, so you don't need to have the best of everything. As long as you can afford the essentials, you'll be fine. But at 18, that's not very likely.
