How do you not care what people think of you?

God only knows how to do that I think, as I'm really bad for it. In one sense I am glad that I am the kind of person that cares what people think because it means that it makes me behave with respect. Both for myself and others.
How I get over it is to think that if someone doesn't like me then that is tough on them. It kinda helps but it takes a lot of working on. I reckon that a great majority of mental issues is brought about by caring what others think of us.
I'm agoraphobic. I can't stand people seeing me, looking at me, or having interaction. Why? I think because I'm scared what they may think of me and do to me.
I know this can make you feel worried and anxious, but consider that you are the better person because you care. Then try to change your thoughts when it comes to mind.
You don't. As human beings .... we are programmed to want to belong and have that validation from others. Lord I wish that I could just be myself and not care and if I ever learn how to love myself and not care what others think. .. I will certainly let you know
I wish I had a good answer for you on that one... I've never been able to just not care what other people think of me. I'm very sensitive and I have classic social anxiety- one of the diagnostic criteria for social anxiety disorder, according to my psychology professor, is "an intense fear of what other people think of you." So you're not alone.
I wish I could just "get over it" like everyone tells me to, but I probably never will.
I wish I could be more helpful to you, just wanted to be honest though!
What are some of those people like who don't care what others think of them? Some of them are arrogant, selfish and basically egotistical people who think the world owes them. We caring folk are such little people to those ones who don't care.
I think it is better to care about what others think of us. We can always talk to someone about what we find others think, and if it is a thought that is not positive, we can look and see if it is true or not. Maybe it may be something that we can work on within our personality, and so better ourselves. But, if it is something that doesn't harm others then there is no need to worry.
