How do adults make friends?
I've been trying desperately to make friends forever.. to no avail. It's always something, its not like I don't try. I try to make friends with someone I've known since middle school.. they have literally a dozen or so friends now. Never tells me if they're hanging out. Never really invites me places. Met someone through her.. also too busy to hang out with me. So I don't consider them friends. Never really had a friend group in school because whenever I asked to hang out, even on weekends, they were "busy". Code word for bs.
I ask adults because I'm in online school now, not a physical location. So I don't have the clutch of school anymore. I just don't know what to do. I've cried about this multiple times. I just try and try and try and it seems like it's all for nothing. Is there any place I should go? What I should do? Maybe an app to try out?
I just need any advice. And yes, to me a friend is someone who can make time to spend with me,because they can do so to their other friends.

People seem to make friends at work, at gyms , clubs or doing volunteer work.

I know here in Ireland it is a big harder at the moment, with Covid and all of that. Lot of places not opened fully. With me I would ask how good are you at talking to people? I have become friends eith people I see weekly on a queue waiting for the post office to open. Same few faces there early every Wednesday morning. Rather than just stand there in awkward silence, we talk to each other. You get to know them. So if you are a good talker, it might be easier for you.

Not sure what things are opened in the US? Whole thing of finding something you like to do in your home area. Something that others would be at. Always a good way to meet others and make friends. Whole charity shop working things is a good suggestion. Like to see what is in the local charity shops around were I live. Have gotten to know the workers well.

All just about talking. Been able to strike up a conversation.

Being interested in the other person. I like when people ask me questions about myself. I mean really, it’s human nature to want to talk about ones self. Ask questions and be a good listener. Best to you.

Best place I have ever met friends is doing martial arts like Jujitsu.
Some of the closest friends I have ever had.
If you're looking to make friends find something you like to do that's social
Like CrossFit, martial arts, book clubs and more.

When I was your age chat rooms were a big thing. I would go to teen chat rooms and chat after that I started going to California chat rooms etc. It's a good way to make friends just be smart about it and don't get yourself catfished if you do try it. It's a good way to talk to people and maybe gain confidence.
