Have you also had this dream?

When I was a child I had quite often this same dream that was basically impossible to explain, but the other day I saw someone on Instagram explain it, which was mind blowing!
How did he have this same dream and why did so many people in the comments agree with also having that dream, only as a child.

It was kind of a nightmare, it wasn't really scary but it was very uncomfortable, especially because it was so hard to explain. I remember as a child trying to explain this dream to my friends but non of them understood. And now when I am way older I get to hear someone explain the same dream...

So how the was explained on Instagram goes like this,
"It was a very scary thing in our childhood. You start imagining a white ball that starts to get bigger and your size gets smaller, then time slows down and someone is talking fast in the background"

The only difference in this explanation to my dreams was that sometimes it was multiple balls and sometimes loud noises instead of voices, but it was all very unclear.
It gave the feeling of being completely powerless, not just little powerless, COMPLETELY! It gave a feeling of claustrophobia as well as the feeling of something becoming the size of something infinite.

I hope some of you had this dream or has an explanation. Or tell me some of your childhood dreams that was weird or other people also have had the same dream as you.

Fascinating, I have had quite the experiences when sleeping. With myself sleep and anxiety have gone hand in hand. I remember as a child always dreaming of a mr and ms mouse who lived in my room, on my dressers etc, and we would have different situations, episodes of things happening. I do remember in dreams things being close but far away at the same time of that makes sense. Kind of like someone just staring at you...it's far away, but also close enough to you. The time slowing down and faster talking reminds me of what I have dealt with in the past know as fast feeling or tachysensia. I've dealt with this predominantly in my childhood but a few times as an adult. I decided to Google the symptoms a few years ago and couldn't believe I found all kinds of people who deal with it. Sleeping and dreams can be so fascinating but at the same time can really affect you.

That's interesting, I didn't know there was a term for that feeling. Sounds exactly like how I felt it in my dreams.

I walk into the gym and I hear my friend talk about this exact dream I have been describing! LIKE WHAT!?!?!?
Is this real life? I swear it was not a dream.

Both Freud and Jung placed great emphasis on dreams in their therapy. Dreams come from the unconscious over which we have no control. Jung called it the 'shadow', always there and always behind us. It is autonomous and will throw up all sorts of symbols because that is its language. If we say 'it's only a dream' then we may miss its message. I used dream interpretation a lot when counselling and it was always a surprise to me when some dreams gave such clear messages.
A ball is an interesting symbol. It can be as small as a cricket/baseball ball or as large as a planet or even the universe. A ball has no beginning or end. No matter what line you draw on a ball it always comes back to where you began. So it could be described as eternity. In this dream the universe gets bigger and you get smaller. I think this is a 'teaching' dream. It reverses what is an actual reality. You are the universe, all that is contained in us and it is this lack of who we are that causes so much anxiety. On a human level it is a lack of self worth, self esteem.
The chattering voices are from those who would mislead you, as actually happens in real life.
The thought of being powerless and claustrophobic goes with the idea of being small and confined, which you are not. It is all an illusion, so the dream is telling you. See it as a lesson in who you are and not someone who is diminishing. Reverse the process and allow your self worth to come to the front of your mind.

I don't have these dreams anymore, only as a child. Most people who also said they had these dreams was also from childhood.
Why is this? How come so many people have the same dream and why are they most commonly found in childhood?
Interesting thoughts though!

I had childhood specific dreams similar but not exactly like yours.

I used to be frightened of thunderstorms as a kid, especially nighttime thunderstorms when I was alone in my bedroom. I can remember many times how scared I’d be of thunderstorms.

I would occasionally dream about thunderstorms. With bright white flashes, similar to the giant white ball you describe. I’d hear thunder and it would drown out all other noise. Usually I was yelling for help in the dream, only to be drowned out by the fierce roar of thunder. I’d dream of being hit by lightning or getting soaked from rain inside my house. I was scared to sleep on my top bunk of the bunk bed until these dreams stopped.

I still have an occasional thunderstorm or even tornado dream now at age 22. Dreams are manifestations of unconscious emotions. Think about how you feel in your dream. Is something in your waking life making you feel overwhelmed, confused and powerless?

Part of my childhood was not very good as I was mentally and physically abused as a child by my mother. I had some interesting dreams as a child. I dreamt I was in an elevator and the elevator the building and flew around town. Another dream I had was there was a large safe and I opened the safe there was a monster inside.

Charlie and the Great Glass Elevator, and the Wonkavator from the Chocolate Factory movie come to mind.

Sorry you went through that. People are always expressing concern about my safety because of some of my work, when the only people who ever harmed me were those meant to protect me. In fact in recent years I have become increasingly reliant on the kindness of strangers (Streetcar Named Desire quote?!)

It's only older I realized there are way more kind people than cruel.

So very true. We tend to only see the negative in anxiety but there is always the flip side to any event. We live in the world of opposites. Light/dark. Good/bad and we are moved by them. My old therapist had a good analogy for this. He used to say that we are like the pendulum on a grandfather clock, swinging to and fro between the opposites. The place to be is at the fulcrum, the place where the pendulum is attached. It does not move but watches the pendulum swinging back and forth. If we can see life as it is and watch events like on a movie we will not be so swayed by what happens. Battling and fighting our way through life is fraught with danger because we will never be at peace. Accepting things as they are and going with the flow is much better. If we can do something about some negative event then we should, but if not then acceptance is the only way. This is not giving in to 'IT' but nullifying it's affect on our lives.

Not alot of people pay attention to dreams, we should but not keep asking people to interpret them. Only us and God can understand a personal dream, unless the person has the Holy Spirit.
