Had a biopsy on a spot and I can't think straight

I went to the dermatologist today just to talk and showed her a spot/zit I've had on my face for a few days. She examined it and took a picture and said we'll check on it in a month to give it time to heal. If it doesn't we'll do a biopsy to make sure

I then had a panic attack, almost passed out and was put on a bed to calm down. Because of how I was she said she'll do the biopsy now to put my mind at ease

She thinks it could be an aged spot, whatever that is, but obviously can't confirm by just looking

And now I have to wait 5-7 days of panicking

She did say my moles on my body are perfectly fine so there's that I guess

I had a similar kind of spot, it was inflamed and crusty and I was quite worried, but after a month or so it disappeared. I had seen a derm about removing it and he said let’s wait and see, which was nice because it cost me nothing and it went away on its own.

Yeah it looks like a spot ya know? It's kinda red around the edges and even feels like one. Maybe I should've waited the month as well, but my anxiety got the better of me :(

It seems she's not worried and just didn't want you to have to wait all month. It's almost certainly nothing dangerous. Melanoma is the only skin cancer that is aggressive and of she thought there were any chance of that she would've said do the biopsy immediately. Also, my job was once processing and filing records for the dermatology department for a hospital. There are a lot of benign skin things that pop up on people's faces as they age. SO many. And they're very common. Meanwhile I was there for months and saw, like...three reports for melanoma. Out of thousands of papers.

Thanks for this post really needed it :)

That's what I'm trying to tell myself. She thought it could wait another month in my follow-up appointment for psoriasis

I only had it done today because I panicked and had to lie down

If it has only been there for a few days I’m sure it’s probably nothing.

Skin cancer is probably the most curable of all the cancers. My wife's mother has had 2 different skin cancers and was cured both times. They just whip it out with some local anaesthetic and a scalpel. Job done.

Update; The spot was cancerous :( They need to cut the rest of it out at the dermatologist office. Gonna have stitches and everything. Then I need to have a skin check in 4 months to make sure I don't have any other spots or anything

This sounds exactly what they're going to do to me

I am hoping for a good outcome for you, I’m glad you didn’t let it go. Sometimes those gut instincts turn out to be right, so don’t ignore them.

What kind of cancer? Regardless since it was caught so early it'll be fine, just wondering.

My mom had cancer on her face and they were literally like "let's wait and see if this gets any bigger" after 6 months it grew a little, so she had it surgically removed. She's fine now, with some extremely difficult to see scarring. No biggie.

They were literally gonna wait on mine but because I had a panic attack they took it off

Now I need that surgery to get the rest of it out like your mom had. Just gotta wait 2 and a half weeks...

I had a melanoma on my arm about eight or so years ago. It was removed with a local anesthetic. I go for skin checks once a year and I’ve been clear ever since!
