Hello everyone. I'm having what I believe to be another round of GERD. Back in 2014 I was having symptoms of not being able to pass gas or burp l also had a dull ache in my stomach. I went to my GP and she ordered an ultrasound...which was normal. She told me that it was most likely GERD and prescribed a PPI Omeprazole. I took it as prescribed and within a week I was back to normal. Now my symptoms are back minus the stomach pain. I do however have a really weird symptom now which is a heavy feeling in my abdomen and my stomach muscles become very contracted. Has anyone ever had this sensation who has GERD?

Hello ageless50. My name is Fernando and i suffer from health anxiety as well, your symptoms are very similar to mine, 4 years ago i had to deal with h.pylori infection and was a nightmare, had all exams and test and everything was ok. But the symptoms persisted (I thought i had Cancer or ALS because twitches and weird feeling). 2 years ago was feeling ill again and started taking Omeprazole for it, again all symptoms of the past came back and subsided 2 months later. Over a month ago it started again (pain in belly area) took Omeprazole for it, GI did another endoscopy and everything was ok except for h.pylori again, but weird symptoms came back. Now connecting the dots, beside h.pylori been a constant in this, Omeprazole is as well. I have researched about this drug and found very useful info in this website askpatient.com Take a look and you will find that the side effects of Prilosec (Omeprazole) describes perfectly the symptoms that we experienced, I’m convinced that this drug is pure poison to our system.

Hello Axdru05. Thanks for responding. What symptoms did you have exactly? Did you experience the feeling of your stomach muscles being constricted?

I suffer from GERD too. The whole stomach issue can be a knotted stomach brought on by stress. It can be horrible when it happens. Who wants to eat much when their stomach is like that? I have got the exact same medication that you were given. They help clear up bouts of GERD when they occur. But on the flip side they also stop all your stomach acid. People imagine that the reflux is caused by too much acid in the stomach. Far from it. Never a bad thing to hear that sound of acid in the stomach. The real problems begin when we have no acid in the stomach at all. With me the reflux can and do lead to infections on my insides. Last one landed me in hospital. But I get it a lot more regular than yourself. So my insides can be bombarded with reflux. Which do me no good at all. Medication may clear it up for a while. But you can try a few home remedies. Apple cider vinegar. If using this make sure it has ' with the mother' on the bottle. Sounds odd. But there is a difference. You would have to mix this in with another drink. The vinegar tastes horrible. I also use raw honey. Kind of like that one. Helps ease any pains I might be getting. Burning pains and the likes. Can mix with slightly hot water from a kettle. Or take on a spoon. Your own choice. Not good for the enamel off teeth. Hence mixing it with water. Few other odd ones for you are cabbage juice. Potato juice as well. Final two here would really help a person digest their foods. Are a few over the counter things that do help as well. Health food stores and the likes. Though I have never tried any myself. Hope you manage to get better and back to your old self again. All about trying not to get stressed over anything. I say that because that was what brought it on me a few times. Stomach muscles knotted up. Which is like what you mentioned in your first post. Same type of feeling. It is one of those conditions there is no miracle cure for. At times we ride it out. All we can really do. Try and stay calm. Don't let yourself get worked up over anything. The mind can do that at times to us. Been there before.

Hello Cuchculan. I got my endoscopy results yesterday evening and the dr. said everything looks great and that polyp he removed and had biopsied was benign. He wants me to have an ultrasound...which I'm having tomorrow morning. A gentleman messaged me and told me that I may be suffering from a side effect from the Omeprazole, which I am 100% convinced that is case. I read some really frightening reviews of how Omeprazole causing muscle weakness, muscle spasms , and muscle tightening of the throat, chest, and stomach. I didn't put 2 and 2 together until I received that message. What else could it be. I'll let you know how my ultrasound goes. Bye...

Hello Fernando! Thanks for letting me know about the Omeprazole side effects. I recieved my endoscopy results and everything is okay. I'm having my ultrasound of my abdomen tomorrow morning. I still have the symptoms of tightness in my stomach along with twitching. I've been off Omeprazole for almost 5 weeks and wondering how long it will take until this symptom goes away Wishing you the best...

Oddly enough, since I wrote that post I was hit bad with more than GERD. It begins that way for me. Ended up in hospital. Point in mentioning this is that you went and were checked up. I always refused to do that part. This is what happens when you don't go and get checked up. I doubled over in my home. 3 operations and a few weeks in hospital later and I am back home recovering. They did work on some ulcers. Plus some other huge name I never heard of before. Have my first ever real scar to show for it all. As I was sliced and diced. And stapled closed again. They do that with long cuts along the stomach. Anybody reading this, go and get checked up. Save yourself a harder time further down the road. If I had of got checked out early I have no doubt all I went through could have been avoided. So get in there early. Don't wait. It is not worth it. Simple camera down you can save you a lot of trouble in the future. Having said that I am back in 5 weeks to have the camera down me to make sure everything is fine. What I was trying to avoid in the first place, the camera job, I still have to have done anyway. Gained nothing by not having it done only a lot of pain and a few weeks in hospital and a few operations. Lesson learned the hard way.

I did have the ultrasound done in hospital. My Lord that jelly like stuff they put on it is bloody freezing. Woman doing it was laughing. My reaction to it. Talk about asking the obvious question. She says ' cold '? I could only laugh and reply ' that is one way of putting it '. You won't feel nothing at all. Except the cold jelly like substance. Is a pain free test.

Hello Cuchulan. My GI called me today to tell me that my ultrasound was good and to take Zantac on a need basis. I still have that tightness in my abdomen. I really believe that it's from Omeprazole. My hypochondria makes me fear als

Happy to hear all was good. Now you have to listen to your doctor. If he said all is good, then all is good. With any luck things will begin to pick up for you from here.
