Hey everyone. I'm wondering what breathing exercises work to relieve your shortness of breath. I've been experiencing a perceived shortness of breath for a couple of days, intermittently. I feel like I'm not getting quite enough air, so I start feeling anxious.

Truth is, I can take a deep breath just fine, which is why I say it's only perceived. It's not shortness of breath like one may experience with intense exercise or similar. Just a nagging, unsatisfied feeling in my lungs. I also began experiencing a mild panic attack this evening, which didn't help, but I think it's gone now.

I've tried the typical "take a deep breath, hold it, exhale, repeat". It doesn't make matters worse, but it really doesn't help a ton either. So I'm wondering what breathing exercises you all use and have success with.

Thanks in advance. :)

I have had the same issues lately with shortness of breath. I think it is my anxiety that is causing it because, i have been to the doctor and i have had bloodwork done and they didn’t seem to find anything wrong. They have checked respiration and oxygen in blood. Oxygen in blood was at 98% which tell me i‘m getting enough oxygen, but it feels like i am not. So i don’t understand either, when someone figures it out let me knowl

I've had these symptoms with anxiety for several years. Always checked out fine at my annual physical and other testing. At this point I'm not even thinking about worst case scenario, though the thought does pop in from time to time. Just looking for an effective method to relieve it. :p

I remember you wanted to try cutting down on smoking cigarettes how is that going? I have a pulse oximeter, I love it. Sometimes when I feel like my heart is beating fast I use the pulse oximeter and it's just fine. So maybe it could be your imagination or a bit of anxiety making you feel like you aren't getting enough air. Any exercise is good for the lungs.

Hell, I wish... I mean, I still try to be aware of how much I'm smoking, and I try to do a little better. But I've honestly not made a conscious effort to truly slow down and work toward quitting.

I'm honestly not concerned about my blood oxygen levels. Never have been. I've felt tremendously worse before, at the doc office, and like I couldn't breathe AT ALL. O2 was 98% or so. Haha. I don't even worry about that aspect. I'm sure it's related to the anxiety.

Indeed. I mean, it did increase my anxiety for a short while, like when I posted about it. But it has since improved, as it always does. It hasn't quite resolved fully, but I know it will sooner rather than later.
