I was actually feeling better last weekend, better than I have in a while...until I got my period this week, and my anxiety became really intense. These past few days have been almost unbearable, I just spend so much time feeling terrified that something terrible will happen or that I'll have a medical emergency, and I can't stop checking for/worrying about some symptoms I'm experiencing. I try my best to just sit with the sensations, to accept them, to tell myself that I'm ok and I'm safe but I just can't shake the feeling that something is horribly wrong. I feel like I'm scared to do anything. This is especially frustrating, because I was feeling so much better just a few days ago.
Then, considering that being on my period might have made my anxiety worse, I thought of the last few major episodes of anxiety I've had...looked at my period tracker...sure enough, all happened during my cycle.
It's not to say that I don't feel anxious when I'm not on my period - I still have been having anxiety attacks and panic attacks every week, unfortunately - but it feels different on my period, much harder to talk myself down from. I was wondering if anyone else experiences this? I know for many people their anxiety gets worse right before their period, but for me it seems to be a day or two before and then every day that I'm bleeding (and maybe a day or two afterward, I'm not sure. I need to start tracking in more detail). I guess I'll be able to see if in a few days, after my period is over, I start to feel a bit better. Of course, this could all just be a coincidence.
I'm planning on getting some blood work done in a couple weeks (not sure when I can get in) to take a look at my hormones to see if we can get to the bottom of this, because it might make everything more bearable even if it only helps a little with the anxiety. Maybe it's just a coincidence. Maybe I'm too sensitized to my body now, so when I get all of these hormonal/physical changes it triggers my anxiety more than usual. But I was just wondering if anyone experiences this.
