I’m starting to think I can not even drink at this point. I drank a little too much last night and today, I noticed this over the summer as well, but I feel so shaky and anxious. I can not stop fidgeting and it’s hard for me to sleep because I feel so jumpy. I’m not panicking or freaking out I’m just curious because I feel so fidgety
today* I did not mean to put the comma. I did not drink today

It masks the anxiety symptoms at times. But never helps overall as it is a stimulant. Then we have the following day. Which would be even worse again. My own father was a drinker and anxious. Just to watch his hands shake if he ever had to do anything. Like screw a screw with a screw driver. Take him ages to try and sready himself. He used to be the same with a lot of other things. If he ever had to assemble anything. I always ended up doing the work as it would have taken him forever. Just the shakes and all of that. That was with drink. He would never admit to been an anxious person. We could see it. Long since passed away now. Dtink was his medication. I just think it done nothing to help him at all.

100% it does. The problem with alcohol is that is takes away the anxiety temporarily as you forget about the issues that you are having. It calms your senses down but in the morning, they are all back plus the guilt of damaging your body with booze. Trust me, I speak from experience on this as I'm going through it now.

alcohol can help in the short term (ie: while you're drinking) but overall, it'll make anxiety worse. just the fact that it disturbs sleep is bad. there's a reason people with anxiety are two to three times more likely to have substance abuse issues.

just an fyi - when you hear alcohol (or any other drug) described as a depressant, all that means is that it depresses your central nervous system (which is just a fancy way of saying it makes you drunk.) it actually doesn't cause depression.

I’m realizing that sadly, I started realizing all of this started a week after I came back from two weeks in Miami where there was a lot of on and off drinking. It’s hard feeling normal these days!

Great to hear that you have now realised the ill effects of alcohol especially to a already anxious person....I can relate your anxiety very well as i was in the same situation a month ago...those dreaded hangover anxieties are horrible....dont worry...it will eventually fade away as time goes on......The only cure would be to stop drinking once and for all.... refraining from alcohol should be on the top list for people like us.....hope u get back on ur tracks soon...:)

yeah I k ow what they mean when they call it a depressant but depression mental health wise os almost always hand and hand with anxiety and should never ever be medicated woth alcohol

Yep easy to ignore worries and pains drunk but when your sober for a long time and have alpt more time to think and think clearly its tough to push thoughts aside how long have you been staying sober? It does start to subside but after a month or two it will get worse before it gets better

It made it worse for me. So I stopped drinking alcohol 11 years ago. I never drank much, but anything that spikes my anxiety and can be easily eliminated from my life, I get rid of.
