Completely spiraling! Red blood cells found in urine at annual physical. Has this happened to anyone else?

Omg! I had my physical yesterday and while bloodwork was fine, red blood cells were found in my urine. He asked I’d my period had finished and I said 5 days ago. He felt like that was a while ago and is sending me to a urologist for more investigating. He says sends people up the urologist for this finding 2-3x a week and most of the time it’s nothing and in rare cases it’s cancer. Given my history with health anxiety I’m completely freaked out. I think this dr took urine when I went to see him in December for something else snd these red blood cells weren’t found then so I’m thinking something new couldn’t be that bad. But my cousin said she also had this but her dr blew it off. Maybe mine found too many cells. Now I’m worried about kidney cancer, bladder cancer, uterine cancer (my mom died from this)...happy Valentine’s Day to me

this like a very alarmist way to go over your results. I've had RBCs in my urine for a decade. I've seen several urologists and have had CTs, labs and a scope to check out my bladder (as a male, one of the worst tests I've ever experienced.) nothing found. I'm still standing.

this is very, very likely nothing to be concerned about. don't let your doctor's poor way of communicating cause you unnecessary worry.

I had this before. They retested me a couple of weeks later and it was fine. My doctor said it could be caused by a tiny kidney stone passing that I didn't even feel.

OMG Matis, me too! I have never been in such pain in my life! I actually stumbled and almost passed out when I exited the bathroom. Fortunately Kammie, the tests is way less painful for women due to their anatomy when compared to a male.

Microscopic blood in urine (not visible, seen only under a microscope) has a very low likelihood of being serious, like under 2%. I may be wrong, but when I researched this when i had micro blood, I don't believe I saw any female cancers listed as a possible cause. They look mainly at the kidney and bladder. Do you smoke? A large percentage of these cancers are in smokers, and much more so in men than women.

I don't smoke, and since Jan. 1 I've been on no sugar, limited alcohol, (whole 30 for January) and lost 15 lbs. I work out about 4x a week hard. I don't drink nearly as much water as I should and that urine sample I gave the doc was dark at the time! ugh. i'm going to do better with water. but now that I think about it, I've had stomach pains all week (i thought it was gas) but now I'm wondering if something else is wrong. BUT I have an appt with the urologist on Monday, and trying not worry until I have a reason. I just think, i have two young kids, and if there's something wrong, I have them to live for and will fight to the end so I can be here for them. it's sooo morbid i know. But I'm a 40-year health anxiety sufferer. Working on it. Thank you for listening everyone!

I had red blood cells show up once. They tested to see if I had a UTI, and I didn't. And it never happened again; it's been several years now.

don't let your mind tie a bunch of unrelated issues together. all that does is needlessly freak you out.

Get the thought of cancer out of your mind.
Don't self diagnose this as it can be misleading.
It most likely is a uti,kidney stone
I just went to the urologist and its nothing scary.
Bladder cancer is rare in women and usually strikes around the 60's-70's.
Also what form of cancer did your mother have and age?
What age are you?
Do you work with chemicals?
Just try and relax.

the rbc count was high - 16 when the normal range is 0-4.

i will try not to freak out. My mother was 66 when she was diagnosed with uterine can era. I’m 47. I don’t work with chemicals other than Clorox bathroom cleaner!

I wouldnt worry about your red blood count so much just mean you have high hematocrit.
If you donate blood once every 56 days it will help.
I have the same issue.
