Anyone else get super anxious by coloring? It does not help me at all. No relief from stress. Just makes me feel stressed. I feel like I have to rush through it. I can’t sit and color long at all. I try to make myself but it just makes more antsy and I don’t know why. I can color for maybe a minute or 2 but it just feels like I’m being eating alive with anxiety.

Maybe you are more focused on sitting there and the mind wanders. When the whole idea is to focus on the image you are coluring. Let that take up the space in your mind. Have tried it before and liked it. Byt the whole idea is to simply focus on the image and what you are doing. Maybe you just can't sit still.

That is probably why. I have my mind going 100 mph and I always have to be moving. Usually my hands or feet at least. I drive myself crazy. I will try to be better with that. Thank you

Colouring is meant to be about mindfulness. Now mindfulness is about living in the second you are at. Not an hour or a day from were you are at. Just that moment. So you are not meant to think of anything else at all. You mind should only be on that one image you are colouring. Is a hard thing to do. To just sit still. To clear the mind. With some people when they sit still their worst thoughts always comes to mind. Takes practice.

It will take some time. I’ve never been one to be able to clear my mind and focus on one thing usually but I will try. Thanks so much

You might be putting too much pressure on yourself to relax. You probably heard somewhere that coloring can be a way to help with anxiety and stress (which it can be helpful for some)...however, if your putting pressure on yourself for it to work it won't.

I have tried coloring. I have a drawer full of the coloring books and pencils. I found it a little stressful also. To me the adult coloring books for stress are too detailed with so much to color and I get frustrated with it lol. I also find myself trying to hurry to finish it and get no stress relief at all. I might do better with a regular kid's coloring book.

The whole idea is to take your time. Spend time with the image. Focus on the image alone. The whole idea was copied from Buddhism. What they do is like sand art. Might spend a whole week creating this amazing piece of sand art. Once done they rake it over and start on a new one. Just working on each bit as they go. Not thinking ahead of themselves. One piece at a time. They are amazing people to be able to do such a thing. I would far from their level. One week non stop on a piece oif sand art and then just rake it over and that is the end of it. Mind blowing how they can just do that. I know I spend a week on a jigsaw and then just break it up. Just meant to give you something to focus on.

i believe that the whole purpose of coloring is to take your time and have fun with it. i used to get stressed as i didn't know what color to pick for a certain area. you maybe looking at the whole picture. try and only focus on one section at a time. its been ages since i have started colouring- this has reminded me too do so haha.

from my experience i think that time when faced with anxiety it is extremely important to become self aware of your body and what it is trying to tell you. when you feel you're getting too stressed, stop and do something else. alot of the time we are unaware of this. eg: if your at work and you start to feel stressed, take a break and walk around. walking is a great thing as both sides of your brain are working together Always remember to be kind to your self.
i havent personally tried this, but i have heard somewhere that it helps to set a timer and when it goes off you move to the next thing.

hope this helps have a great day/night
