So, last night I suddenly got this itching/prickling sensation all over my body, accompanied today by hot flashes on my upper back and shoulders. Last night I had a ton of caffeine, so I couldn’t sleep and spent most of last night and today terrified of liver/kidney problems, wondering what horrible disease was causing my itchiness and burning. This happened to me (actually around the same time) last year. It came and went seemingly for no reason. Has anyone else experienced this? I’m at my wits end here. Can my my intense anxiety be causing this? Thanks everyone.

yes burning/prickly skin can be a symptom of anxiety. I get it at times myself but it is usually isolated to one particular part of my body and is short in duration. While it can be a sign of liver disease, usually with liver disease it is more dominate to the palm of hands and soles of feet. and worse at night BUT even then, there are so many otehr things that can cause itching, etc. that it is highly unlikely it is caused by your liver.

The factthat you had it happen last year and it stopped should help you relax knowing it will most likely do the same this year.

Good luck

It almost sounds like you had an allergic reaction to something and your anxiety (plus the caffeine) took your symptoms and ran off with them. Do you have seasonal allergies? I know I'm allergic to grass & will get super itchy when people mow their lawns.
