I’m feeling really depressed. Nothing in my life is going right. I can’t hold down a job, I don’t have any friends, and I frequently have angry outbursts. I can’t go on like this!

hi, it sounds like you are having a hard time, and I understand that it feels bad right now. Thanks for sharing through tough times, if you are willing to try something that might make you be able to cope with your depression then seeing a therapist is my suggestion. I know it sounds cliche although it helped me a lot to cope with my depression. I can also recommend mindfulness and meditation, so you can be aware of what your triggers are and observe them. I really wish you well! lots of hugs.

What is depression? It often follows or goes with chronic anxiety. It's lack of mental energy. Just as the body gets tired and doesn't want to do anything, so with the mind. It's because with prolonged anxiety we have used up all our mental reserves of energy. Anti depressants can help but take time to click in.
As anxiety lifts so will depression. Dorothy Rowe who wrote many books on depression likened it to a prison cell with an open door. We can leave when we like, but don't do so. Why? Because it's safe in there. The old jailer brings us food and water and books so we can sit around all day and think negative thoughts. Why go 'out there' with all the responsibilities when it's so comfortable in the prison? We often go into denial in depression. This is not by any means saying it's anyone's fault. Depression can also hit us after a tragic loss or an accident we witnessed. A bereavement or a divorce or some other emotional life issue.
It sticks in the mind and can take some time to come to terms with. The thing to remember is that depression always passes given the right treatment and, once again, acceptance.

@cayene Thank you! I actually see a therapist but depression continues to be a struggle. I have done mindfulness and meditation in the past, I will have to look into it again.

@Jonathan123 The prison cell with an open door is an interesting analogy. Thanks for sharing!
