Still hung up on this rabies thing. I have face and ear pressure, arms are weak and tingly and fingers won’t work right. Nausea upset stomach. Can barely type. Objectively I know rabies is extremely unlikely. But I just can’t shake it. I feel terrible and am just so scared. I have no appetite and I can’t focus on anything. I am just freaking out. Any help at all? Just tell me if others experience this :/ if this is somewhat normal to anyone else with health anxiety. I’m on like day 4 of this crazy spike

Anxiety could cause everything you described. If you get yourself so wound up. It can get to the point were eating is not something we want to do. Sleeping is hard. Heck, everything about the whole day is a nightmare. Not sure if you are getting help? In this day and age nobody should have to live as you are. There is help out there. I would begin with my GP. Just have some bloods done. Rule out a lot of things. That alone would ease a lot of pressure from your shoulders. But also mention how you have been feeling. For a good while now. This is not something you can go through alone.

Should also mention I start therapy within the next month. Assuming this isn’t actually rabies anyway

I doubt it is rabies. That is just something you are worried about on an anxiety level. Hence the word ' again ' in the title of the thread. Once you stop thinking that, that alone will really help you out.

The one thing that calms me a tiny bit is I feel fine for the first 20 minutes or so I’m awake. Then my brain puts its work in and I have all the symptoms. Thank you for the reply though. It’s my first rabies phobia! 10/10 would not recommend

I gave you the name of two books which will help you recover. I know they will work, they are working for me. All you have to do is apply the method described in these books. My anxiety has dropped a lot in just a month. I was doing relaxation meditation and therapy before starting the method and it had helped get my anxiety level down, but after starting the acceptance method by Dr Weekes, my recovery has progressed at a better pace. I am able to think and rationalize and accept. Reality has crept back in, giving me back my ability to make better decisions. It’s worth all the work I put in, it has been hard, but no harder than remaining where I was. All it takes is the willingness to try. You have to be the one to help yourself and take the steps necessary. With all due respect, no one can really help you until you are willing to help yourself and look past the fear. And there is nothing anybody can say or do that will help in the long run, it’s up to you to take the leap of faith, and right now you are not able to believe, but do it anyway. You have nowhere to go but up and out of the quagmire.

No bites. Out pheasant hunting a month ago, lot of direct contact there but I don’t see how I’d have contracted it. Have thought about a possible bat in the cabin we rented. And deer hunting 2 weeks ago, again not sure where contact would have come from. I realize how irrational it is. I just can’t subconsciously shut it off

I saw one book you mentioned, not seeing where you mentioned the second one

It doesn't appear subconscious... you are consciously driving the fear and you know its irrational.

What do you need to stop this runaway train?

I don’t have many spirals like this. When I do it’s just time and trying to keep myself occupied. Rather than trying to think my way out of it.

It’s Only Anxiety by Carl James, available on Amazon for $11. Hope And Help For Your Nerves by Dr Claire Weekes. Research them both. James’s book is like a condensed version of Dr Weekes’ book. She is a renowned Dr credited for “cracking the code of anxiety.” Her book explains things in greater detail, James’ book leaves out explanations and get to the direct point of practicing the acceptance method created by Dr Weekes. I find them both to be helpful. The method works, gives one plenty of room for imperfection in the method.

I just think you need to sit down with someone. As in an expert in their own field of therapy. And unload everything you have been going through. Explain your phobia. Explain how it has been making you feel. Get some feedback from them. Then try and begin to work putting things right. Books are great to read. But at times it can be hard to do what any book is asking us to do. If that was a person asking you to do the same thing it might be a bit easier. Because you will be aware that you will have to see that person again. Sit down with them again. It will be like a book come to life. Same theories. Only having that person there with you to explain things. Great to have them there if you are finding thing difficult. You can tell them what you see as difficult. They might change the approach to it. Try and make it a little bit easier for you.

Hi Mat. Your post has strong echos with the way I believe anxiety should be approached. But, like me, you are a Dr. Weekes fan. She gave an in depth explanation of all the symptoms of anxiety, and I still would not be without her recordings. We need a 'top up' now and then even after we have seemingly recovered. Thanks for that.

Could you have Conversion Disorder? I was diagnosed with that. My anxiety manifests into neurological and other physical symptoms.

Nearly everyone with HA does this to some degree. Tingling hands, irregular heartbeat, breathing, etc. etc.

I was once admitted to a psych ward because my physical symptoms were freaking me out so badly. Turns out it was anxiety causing them. Took them a while to convince me I wasn’t dying. So they can get extremely intense. But they go away.
