I have become worried about the “mental health” tag so to speak. People talk about people with issues and say it’s mental health for various issues they use this term. I worry with my anxiety I am just a guy batting “mental health” because I feel anxiety daily does this mean I am in poor mental health? Will I ever feel well? I mean there is stuff I want to do but my anxiety stops me and lately the term “mental health pops up” for me again. It seems such a broad term as it can mean people in bad mental health yet anxiety may be less severe. Some people don’t see anxiety quite as mental health can anybody reassure me?

I know its easy to get hung up on labels, and the distinction might be lost on people who don't deal with these things all the time. I try to educate the people around me about anxiety and depression, not in the least because a significant proportion of ALL people will have a period of major depression during their life, and if there's less stigma they might be more likely to find help. Arguably addiction is also a mental health issue (including nicotine), let alone anger management and grief. So poor mental health might be someone ignoring their symptoms or burying them in substance abuse. I don't think anyone who is actively working through the problems that we have is in poor shape, however poorly we may feel at times.

Never mind what others have to say. These are normally people who don't have to live with anxiety. Who have no idea what it is like. They like to shout their big mouths off. Anxiety effects your mental health. Simple as that. It takes a toll on people.

The stigma against mental illness is something that I think will always be around. But I think it's getting better. And I think it's been better since the old days.

Anxiety does take a toll on people. It took a toll on me.

Hi Phil10. Just face it, you've got an anxiety disorder like everyone else on this forum. I agree that some still don't view mental disorders the same as physical ones (like insurance companies) but they really are the same. Technically your brain is just another organ and it shouldn't be looked down upon any more than having kidney disease. It takes one less worry away if you can see your anxiety as any other physical symptom.

Does anybody here want to do stuff but there anxiety stops them? If so what do you want to do? Like sometimes flying or getting on a train causes me anxiety sometimes it wins sometimes it doesn’t?
