I’m not full on freaking out or anything, at least yet, but I can’t get it out of my head. I’ve noticed my thumb and index finger feeling a little tingly over the past couple weeks. I’ve put it off to having touched some hot pans a while back while cooking and/or unpacking boxes at work. Tonight, I made the mistake of googling. According to google, diabetic neuropathy is usually in the feet. Wow, all of a sudden my toes feel tingly. My other fingers also feel tingly in my left hand now.

Not sure if it’s reassuring or makes it worse, but the tingling only seems to be in my left hand and usually only in my thumb and index finger. I’m hoping all of the others are anxiety related. I also tend to think About diabetes a lot, cause it runs heavily in my family and my blood sugar has always leaned towards the higher side of normal.

Sometimes the body just tingles, for no reason. Honestly. Since you’re so focused on it, it amplifies the sensation. I think it’s very unrelated to diabetes:)

Type 2 diabetes is a lifestyle disease, it is preventable a lot of people just refuse to make the necessary changes that are needed to do so.

Whenever I see the word ' Again ' in a post I know you must have had this same fear before and it was nothing the first time around. So is probably the same this time around as well.

Diabetic neuropathy is a late manifestation of long standing diabetes. No way you have that initially. Cause either for reasons you said or even carpal tunnel, ulnar tunnel (unsure what it’s called) or other minor nerve irritations.

Enjoy your birthday!

Neuropathy isn't usually an early sign of diabetes, way more likely you irritated a nerve or something. If you're concerned about type 2 diabetes, best thing you can do is lifestyle changes - exercise regularly, mostly eat things that are good for you, quit smoking if you do. Type 2 does develop in otherwise healthy people, but usually it can be averted with good lifestyle choices.

Thanks! Yeah, I generally try to eat decently. I watch and limit my sugar intake pretty carefully. The only sugar I really take in is from fruit, wine, and the occasional biscotti or other dessert. Carbs are the hard part, though, with things like pasta and bread. Love that stuff. I’ve never smoked, except weed for a couple years, but haven’t done that in years now. I exercise off and on, but I try to stay somewhat active throughout the day. The slightest hint sends me into worrying about diabetes due to the family history though.

Thanks! I’m starting to see that now from reading responses, googling, and talking to friends with diabetes. I’d be surprised to be have carpal tunnel having only just turned 24, but a pinched nerve or something would make sense.

I appreciate the positivity! Sometimes it’s hard to differentiate between real symptoms, physical anxiety symptoms, and normal body sensations, but we all manage I guess

I had gestational diabetes when I was pregnant and I’ve worried it would turn into full blown diabetes ever since. I go to the walk-in labs once a year and do blood work. It checks your a1c and glucose levels. So far so good.

This! And anxiety and thinking about it is GUARANTEED to make it worse!
