So I woke up this morning in incredible pain and had to sprint to the bathroom. I had severe diarrhea, and to my horror in the midst of it I noticed chunks of bloody mucous. The rest of today I have passed a few chunks of mucous with blood inside it. My stomach is also really upset and gurgling.

I'm really afraid this is cancer. My family has an extensive history colon issues, but none of them have ever had cancer of the colon.

Anyone else have experience in this realm?

You need to get to a ER Asap
Blood in stool isn't a good thing.
If it's colon cancer the sooner the treatment the better.
They're going to need to do a CT scan with contrast.

First of all was your BM painful in anyway? Have you ever experienced this before? Was the blood light or dark?

The movement was painful yes. I've had "colon attacks" just like this one my entire life, the blood is the only thing new. As to the blood it was fairly light, but the stool that was there was runny and a shade of brown that kind of made it hard to tell.

It certainly wasn't the classic "coffee grounds" color or consistency of dried blood in the colon, it was pretty fresh.

There wasn't too much blood either. I'd say over all perhaps a bit over a teaspoon spread over multiple BMs spread over hours.

I had an abdominal CT without contrast in the last year roughly, it was deemed perfectly normal. There wasn't a significant amount of blood, very little. My nurse friend recommended waiting to see if this improved in the next day or so, and if it did make an appointment with my GP for a Gastro referral. However if it gets worse or persist you can bet I'll be visiting my local ER.

Might be a fissure. I get those from time to time and the toilet looks like a murder scene from one little cut. If you’re concerned I definitely say go to the ER. I have had some crazy bowel issues throughout my life that I never saw doctors for and I’m still alive. There have been points where I’ve seen orange and green mucus. Blood at points. Usually within a week they go away. I haven’t died yet (and these issues have happened very infrequently (maybe once every couple years) throughout the past 7-8 years or so, but have had stomach issues my entire life). So I’m assuming all is well with me. But again, if you’re concerned. Definitely see a doctor. Everyone’s bodies are so different that it’s hard for someone’s story to put you at ease.

Good plan. I know I say this a lot but a poor diet can bring a lot of this stuff on. Light blood could mean that it's a fissure or hemorrhoid related. You had diarrhea that could be the reason for the blood.

I get blood from hemorrhoids. A couple of years ago I had a bad GI infection and it made me poop blood all day. I went to the ER and got a couple of bags of fluids and I perked up.
