Work is stressing me out a bit

I auditioned to be an extra yesterday in a Netflix movie that’s being shot in a nearby town. They said they’d call tomorrow if I got in, but if I did I’d have to spend all of Friday and Saturday on set. Normally it’s no big deal, with my job getting a day or two off is really just getting the projects done early. But my job gave me two covering opportunities this week and on top of that next week they want me to train a new rep. I’m excited to have so much going on, but I’m a bit stressed about it. I’m running the math in my head and it’s hard to know if I would be able to do the movie even if I got cast. It’s a lot more hours than I’m used to working, but I just can’t pass up the money. I don’t make very much and between the covering and the training this could be my biggest paycheck yet. I’m worried that I might be putting too much on my plate. I have a tendency to overload myself with stuff until I’m breaking promises and losing my mind from sleep deprivation. I know I can do it all, but so much of it is outside my comfort zone and all at once so needless to say I’m a little intimidated by everything.

I understand not wanting to overload yourself until you break. I tend to have the same issues. But think. This movie is only for 2 days, right? 2 days is short in the grand scheme of things. It’s not like you’re making a multiple week or month commitment. It’s a short project. Kind of like if you worked and had to move to a new apartment or house over the weekend. It’s just a quick commitment. After Sunday, life will be back to normal. Try to think of it that way

Also, imagine kicking yourself for NOT doing it? It’s only two days. You’re strong enough to do it. I definitely wouldn’t recommend doing something like this every weekend, but once every month or two will be good. Plus, being an extra, you might actually have fun and be exposed to something exciting any new. It might not be a stressful project. They will probably have refreshments and you might get to meet some other full-time grinders there, too that you can share your story with.

Don’t sweat. You got this :)

Thanks man, I compromised by agreeing to do just one of the days, that way I have plenty of time to get my work done and do the movie. It would have been possible to do both days, but it would’ve been cutting it close. I have 27 hours worth of work projects to do (I’m a retail vendor that gets paid per project) but I would’ve only had 3 days to do everything and my bosses won’t allow me to go over 8 hours per day. Meaning I would have only been able to get 24 hours worth done. So I would’ve had to bank on getting some of the projects done early, which I have done before, but I don’t like having to rely on getting it all done in less time because while some projects take less time then estimated some have taken me twice as much time. Now with this and everything I’ve accomplished lately in mind, my dad is mad at me for not doing both days. I made a responsible decision and as a result of all the opportunities I jumped on this week my next pay day will be HUGE, and my dad is still disappointed. This is why I gave up trying to please him.
