When you can't find anything to be grateful for

I was going through this for awhile. Now I've changed the word to look for things that bring me some semblance of a good feeling, or pleasure, to any of my senses, no matter how seemingly small. I will focus on that for a little while. If I like how something looks and feels, I will hold it in my hands for awhile. I will pay attention outside and notice squirrels or feel the soft wind on my face, or say hello to a passing stranger. I suppose this is what mindfulness is all about.

im sorry but im not rlly clear with what you wrote but i can share my experience with how i find things to be grateful for and listening to meditation at night is definatly one of them.it helps to take deep breaths. i don't know if you have a journal but it rlly helps to get your feeling/thoughts out on paper. sometimes just getting out of bed, starting the day really helps with that negative though pattern- also do the tings that you enjoy. whenever i am having a bad day, i write down all the things that i am good at, all the friends that i have and also what i have in my life. maybe you are not grateful cause you wish you had something that someone else has.
one helpful tip that i learnt from my psychologist, is to think what is in your control and that is out of your control also accepting the fact that it is what it is. someone once told me that also going on walks really helps. when you walk, both sides of you brain are working together making it easier to reason things out.

hope this helps ")

thank you imsotired....I do have a little book called the 5 minute journal meant to be written in when you wake up and before you go to bed. It asks you to mention three things you have gratitude for, three things that would make today great, a daily affirmation, and at night 3 things that happened, and how could I have made today better. No I don't really ever want what someone else has but my 'grateful for' things seem so trite compared to losses. brother committing suicide, father with dementia in a home in another province who I can't visit, a sister in law who is in a home but shouldn't be and no one is responding to legal letters....but now that I said all this, I can see that even now more than ever it is vital to hold onto anything I can be grateful for or enjoy.

I admit, some days are more difficult than others to be grateful...but waking up in the morning is definitely one! :)
