I woke up at 3 am and could not see in right eye and had blurry, kaleidoscope, bursts of color spots which lasted several seconds until it cleared up. I am freaking out. please help! I do spend a lot of time online and freaking out because my family says my eyes look like a wild look. Very recently, I can see white on side of my eyes like flashes for a few seconds.

I am going to make an appointment with an eye doctor. The one my family uses is not there anymore.

My bet is that the normal aging process of having the vitreous detachment from the retina is what is happening. Don’t confuse that with retinal detachment..totally different. Starts about your age assuming 51 and causes both floaters and flashes of light, like lightning bolts in the peripheral vision. Normal, albeit annoying. You get used to it and supposedly it goes away as the vitreous fully detaches, but that takes a long while.

This can be diagnosed easily in an eye exam.

I used to very frequently fall asleep and awake with blurry vision that would last for a couple of hours, and eventually get better. I looked it up and found it was pretty common. Seems to be due to how your sleep and if the eye is open.

I have sleeping problems and often I awake with a jolt or I awake with a panic during my sleep. So to calm down I get online. This is how it was last night. I woke up and had this problem that I describe above. I usually am online with iPad until I doze off. Can’t ever sleep well due to anxiety. Been going on for a Long time. Even during the day I am online.

You are probably sleeping with your eyes partly open. Does your vision slowly get better within 30 min to couple hrs?

My vision got clear after thirty seconds, which seemed like an eternity. Has anyone ever waken up in the middle of their sleep with this? This is how it happened.

See the eye doctor. Take the advice given on here. Use logic.

Yes, get some medical advice if only for reassurance. But I can guess what you will be told. All during my GAD and even now I get visual disturbances. It's so common in anxiety. The eyes are very delicate instruments and stress is surely one way of causing them problems. If you stop giving it too much attention it will gradually fade. It's the old anxiety story, the more attention we give symptoms the more they plague us.

If you are on medication for anxiety that can cause it as well. My Lexapro causes me to have visual snow sometimes upon waking.

Just came back From an eye doctor’s appointment because of concerns about my vision.
last saw an optometrist at an optical store exactly a year ago and they updated my prescription a little bit and I still got progressives (hate!)
It felt like I was having blurry vision lately and I was concerned. I got checked out for everything all the concerning conditions and there has been a small change in my prescription But not enough to Dr. thinks I need new lenses at this time. time, maybe in a year’s time. :D
He did mention to me that anxiety might not be helping, and that some of the psych meds that I am on could be contributing as well.
I just wanted to update on my situation in case it might help somebody else.
