Tylenol/Advil

Hi Everyone,
I have been alternating one regular strength Tylenol and one regular Advil every night for a while now, so I take an Advil one night, then a Tylenol the next and so on. I take it for mild pain and body tension. My doctor says it's fine but I worry that it will harm my liver or kidneys. Do any of you take Advil or Tylenol this often or more often without issue? No horror stories please.

Thanks!

Hello, I have the same fear as you. I have shoulder pain and can't sleep on my back so I have taken 2 ibuprofen before bed every night for a really long time and I worry about taking it that often as well. I know I shouldn't take it all the time but I also have weird sleep issues or sleep anxiety I guess, that I don't want the shoulder pain to be one more thing that keeps me awake. Even taking the ibuprofen I still have the pain but I think it would be worse if I didn't take anything. I don't take Tylenol much because I don't find that it helps very much with joint pain. I haven't had any issues that I know of and hopefully I won't, but I don't know what else to do for the pain. I don't think everyone has problems taking these things daily and I'm sure a lot of people need to.

Thanks Suzzeeb,
Your story sounds just like me. I have mild aches and pains and anxiety around sleeping so I take the Tylenol or Advil so that at least the pain won't contribute to any sleep issues. So far it helps a lot for me. I spoke with my therapist about it today and she told me it's so minor and such a small dose that I shouldn't even worry about it or beat myself up about it. I didn't take anything last night and I slept but I was aching all night. I will keep trying to limit it but also take it if I need it. Thanks for your reply, it helps to know I am not the only one.

I think it's a very common thing. If it helps it's worth it!

Hello! I’d ask my doctor for a new medication because taking ibuprofen for a long time can damage your stomach. Better safe than sorry.

Yeah I know it isn't ideal. My husband has pain issues and can't take ibuprofen and Tylenol doesn't work at all for the pain he has and the only other option is some kind of opiate, which can't really be taken regularly, so there really aren't many options for pain unfortunately.
