So I have had this little spasm in what I think is my diaphragm.on the left side. Me being a heart worrier, I immediately think heart even though it is below my rib cage. I have no pain there or anything. Anybody else have diaphragm spasms from anxiety?

Muscle spasms in general can occur anywhere a muscle is located - so just about anywhere on the body. I've experienced this same spasm before, but don't know which muscle it may be. Caused by anxiety? Possibly, but I doubt it. It's probably just a typical sensation from the body, with no real cause.

recognizing your anxiety level is a great tool to have when trying to figure out if your symptoms might be anxiety related.

two things to keep in mind: 1.) spasms can sometimes be caused by anxiety. 2.) completely normal and healthy people have muscle spasms from time to time for tons of minor, benign issues ranging from dehydration to an electrolyte imbalance to muscle injury. spasms are almost always muscular. having a heart attack won't cause your muscles to spasm.

If you feel like you need to google then google anxiety relief exercises. Google some relaxation techniques. I’ve been there on the heart anxiety and google will do absolutely nothing to help you. That’s the worst one to google because everything is a red flag and they generally won’t tell you that it could be no big deal, the websites always air on the side of caution and tell you to go to the ER. There is no benefit to that so just find something to relax you, take some medication if you need to. You’ll be just fine.

Thank you. I am feeling a little better now just knowing I am done working and can take my medicine. Anxiety is still there but coming down. It's about a 5right now where it was close to a panic attack earlier.

I tend to have that spasm when my anxiety is high. It's an annoying feeling like if you're vibrating from within. I've never really bothered to get it checked out. I was under alot of stress and anxiety last year and I had the spasm and didnt really think about it until I had it again this year going through another stressful situation.

Just try to keep your mind off of it. And definitely dont go to google! It will only make you even more anxious!

Hope this helps

I took an Atavan. 5mg and it's not helping. It is helping a little but still very anxious. I actually googled anxiety and diaphragm flutter and found out it is fairly common. My anxiety is so high though and I don't know why.
That should say 0.5 mg not 5 mg. I may take another 0.5 mg and see if that helps.

Sorry you're still not feeling well even after taking the 0.5mg. I once took an Ativan (not sure what dosage) when I went to the hospital with afib (first and only occurrence), given by the nursing staff. It calmed me instantly. Do you normally struggle to find relief with 0.5mg, or is this the first time it's not helped enough?

This is the first time. Usually i only take it at night to sleep. This is the first time I've been in a full blown panic and tried taking it. My script is for 0.5mg to 1mg twice a day as needed but I only have ever taken 0.5 at bedtime.

Ah, I see. Well sorry you're struggling, and I hope you feel well soon. I'm dealing with some anxiousness myself tonight, so you're not alone. :p

I have irregular heart beats and can be quite scary and the more I worry the worse they get, I do my best not to ask Dr Google!!!
