Tips from my friends over the pond please to deal with heat and anxiety! Us Brits don't do well in heat ha! It's 28degrees here so I'm guessing that's in the 80s. Probably cool for some of you but we get a week or two a year of this weather and it's horrible! All our houses are bricks and insulated to keep heat in, air con just isn't a thing. I think I'm going to melt. In all seriousness though I've noticed my anxiety is spiking and I'm guessing it's the heat. Feel sleepy, headache and like everything is slow. Is this normal with heat or is it just my anxiety making me think things. I've had loads of heart palpitations too.

I believe it's the heat ! Especially if you dont experience it regularly. Here in the most southern tip of ontario we get HEAT ! today was a cooker , we get a high humidity. Today was 30 but felt like 35 and sticky . I never feel that great when it's that hot so I don't spend a huge amount of time outside unless the humidity is gone . We also have central air conditioning and a pool . most here have air con . I can't imagine life without it ! I live for the summer months and take advantage of the heat to enjoy the pool and be outside but I do it in shorter amounts of time. Next week will be a killer so even the hardiest of souls will be seeking an air conditioned space. Drink lots of water ! It'll help.

I think that's the worse part here is that in hot countries people go inside to cool off. Anywhere inside in the UK is an oven right now! It's going to be 30 today so anywhere inside will be at least 36+ or more, you can't breath inside it's so humid. Yuck! Luckily it won't last and it's raining again Monday and 21. I feel like I'm walking around in a daze. My office is already 33degrees and it's only 9.30am uuurgh. Makes me feel panicky!

I live in Canada and bought our son who lives in UK a portable air con machine. I think it was Argos. Might be worth the inestment if its goig to be a hot summer. He has a baby and toddler so wanted to keep it cool inside for them. Also close blinds and curtains in the house.

Great minds think alike lol , was gonna suggest the same . Maybe you can find a good used one on Facebook marketplace ? It would be a worthwhile investment even for 2 or 3 weeks a year .

Ah yes it is Argos I've just had a look! Will need to save and we would have probably had our summer for the year then! It's gross today it's so hot. Inside buildings are like furnaces and if you sit outside I burn like a crisp with fair British skin! I'm glad tomorrow is the last day of it. Fed up of sweating and feeling like my heart is beating outside my chest. Definitely makes me feel anxious because I don't want to do housework then I feel overwhelmed when there's so much to do. Does cooking make anyone else get palpitations? I've noticed it a lot when cooking, must be the heat I guess.

Glad your heat wave is at an end ! After a crazy cool and wet spring we are entering an insane heat wave . Temps in the mid to high 30s yikes! And with the humidity it will feel.like the 40s . Ugh ! Looks like I'll be hunkering down inside with air con cranked . It's actually dangerous heat , can't imagine anyone not having g a cool place to stay . Maybe we can use the pool in the evening lol , can't win !

We do seem to get hotter summers now which is lovely but it's awful when it's roasting outside which makes any indoor building an absolute furnace. You can't escape the heat! About time they put Aircon in UK homes. But we get a week or two of hot weather and that's it. Last year we never had a day over 22. This spring was insane it didn't rain for a month and I can never remember that ever happening. From tomorrow it's 19 and raining and I can wait! Every day next week is under 20

Should be coming to and end tomorrow, but -

- Keep curtains windows and curtains during the day, you're letting heat in if they're open.
- Fling them open at night.
- Cheapish air-con effect can be made by sticking a bowl of ice and water under a fan.
- Cooling blankets are fairly inexpensive on Amazon or Ikea. They work for some people, don't for others.

Thanks. I'm in a new build too and they're furnaces at the best of times! Great in the winter with bills but not so great in the summer. We have to keep our windows closed as we have an indoor cat but we shut all the bedrooms and leave the windows and open and curtains closed. I've never tried the ice behind a fan thing. Woke up today and it's 17 degrees and cloudy. Aaah at last! It's miserable all week now and I'm not mad at that! Today is the first day I've woken up without palpitations from the heat!

We have fans in the bedrooms here. Cheap to have put up. If you have any friends who know how to wire things, even cheaper again. Cooler morning here too. Ireland here. We did have the heat for a few days. All the rain yesterday. Is all pushing East. So that will be heading towards you. I assume you are in the UK.

Yeh I'm in Wales. I actually had to shut the window in the middle of the night last night because it was freezing. Raining and 17 degrees today. Don't get me wrong I love the sunny days but it makes me feel awful when you can't escape it! We've got fans in the bedrooms which definitely help. The kitchen is the worst place in my house, cooking has been a nightmare! Woke up without heart palpitations today too which was nice. The heat makes me have them terribly which always worries me

Still a bit muggy here. Lot of rain on the way tonight. So that might end up your way too. I do have to cook for myself and my Mother. The kitchen can be like a furnace. Shorts and t shirt maybe. Or cook naked. :p The way I view it? When we panic or have bad anxiety attacks we feel hot. So in comes some hot weather and we only know hot from anxiety. The brain begins to work. Nothing feels right about the heat. Because we have it connected to anxiety. On the plus side we don't exactly get much of a Summer. Only good thing about the Summer in Ireland is the rain is warmer.

I think it's meant to get up to 28 on the weekend again. Lovely outside not so much inside! I'm seriously tempted to buy a portable aircon unit. I probably should as that will jinx the weather and it will rain every from there in ha! Cooking is the worst and I think I'd scar my 3 teenage sons for life if they found me cooking naked haha!!

I hate the nauseous and lightheaded feeling from heat, makes me feel drugged! We've got another mini heatwave coming for the next 4 days. I can't cope with 32 degrees! Anywhere inside will be unbearable.

Oh no, I feel your pain ! I sort of pre plan my hot weather week before hand . I get a cooked rotisserie chicken from the store , make a couple of salads , buns , cold cuts and of course Popsicles lol . Keeps the cooking down at least and makes my life a little easier . Hope you can stay as cool as you can .
