So you know how your phone can sometimes target you with ads that are appropriate for you—like how I start getting hair dye ads just about the time I need to color my hair? Lately I keep seeing ads that say something about “do you know the early signs of COPD?” And it’s freaking me out. Like maybe it’s a sign that I have that. maybe something about my searches and my behaviors shows that I am at risk. Knowing that it’s a huge risk factor for covid complications, now I’m getting really scared that I have it but don’t know it. I actually have no clue what the symptoms are and I would never google it because as soon as I know the symptoms, I’m sure I’ll feel them thanks to my crazy brain. Anyone have strategies for getting over your fear of a disease without actually googling it or going to a doctor?

Sure. Treat the root problem: anxiety. Once you learn how to properly react (or not react) to such things, you'll feel much better. There are no "signs" in seeing these things, it's simply the power of suggestion. I see ads for COPD all the time, among other fairly scary stuff, but fortunately they don't bother me. I did used to be bothered by ads about heart attack/stroke though, so I do understand.
