Hey Everyone!

I was just curious if anyone has any suggestions as to how to deal with anxiety without medication? Are there any natural remedies that help you cope?

I have heard great things about CBD oil and anxiety- through family members who have anxiety, as well as friends. I've also done my own research but was wondering if anyone on this forum has tried that?

I have been prescribed Xanax, and have to say that I am a little reluctant to try it. I was diagnosed with Generalized Anxiety Disorder, but I do notice myself constantly worried about the side effects of medications-- even down to like cold meds, Tylenol and so on.

To relax myself when I feel anxiety approaching I color, listen to music, read books. However that's not always an option sometimes.

Any suggestions will do. I am aware that what may work for some may not work for others. I just want to hear what you do to cope/handle the anxiety.

I also want to hear from individuals who take Xanax, and how that medication as helped them.

Thanks so much!

Hello welcome to the forum!

I'm currently having some bad anxiety too and I am fighting so hard not to take any meds because of side effects. What I have been taking are supplements instead. I'm taking vitamin B everyday the bottle I buy is called "stress B complex" and it makes me able to handle stress better, instead of making me feel horribly overwhelmed. And after dinner I take 250mg of Magnesium. So far it's making this ordeal bearable but it doesn't fully make it go away. Distracting your mind is a very good option as well as doing breathing exercises and listening to calming music.

I havent tried it yet but also Valerian tea or pills help you feel more relaxed. And it's not a medication.

Best to you on your healing journey!

Exercise -atleast half hour a day of cardio

Diet - cut out caffiene, added sugars, and alcohol. Eat high protein breakfasts everyday

Sleep- 7-8 hrs a day. get up same time everyday

Relaxation technique daily. There are many out there you can try. I like meditation.

Hi!! I have generalized as well, on top of other issues. All great suggestions listed from the others , I just wanted to add that I have Xanax that I take as needed. And by that I mean maybe a few times a year, due to my horrible medicine anxiety. I'm TERRIFIED to take meds and I know I need a daily. However the Xanax works great for me, but the ONLY side effect I've ever had was sleepiness!! I have to take a nap or take before bed. I only take 1/2 of the lowest dose. I wish I wasn't afraid to take a daily SSRI. Let us know what you decide!!

This sounds like I could have written it. I also only take half of the lowest dose! I used to take a quarter! Every now and then I'll take a full if I'm in a full blown panic attack.

I was prescribed Zoloft once (lowest dose) about 5 years ago and took 1 pill a day for 2 of 3 days, but it made me so anxious to take it that I felt like it was worse to take it and went back to xanax in case of emergencies only. Xanax works great, but my only concern with it is developing a dependency whick is why I limit it so much.

I also made a major overhaul to my diet 4 years ago which helped a lot along with long distance road cycling which I took up about 3 years ago. Since then my anxiety had been at very low and manageable levels, and even non existant for extended periods. Unfortunately, i started being less careful with my diet the last 3 months and business trips took their toll on my exercise and sleep, so I've been pretty bad this past month--like I haven't been in years.

The Dr prescribed me Zoloft again, but I stare at the bottle every morning and figure out a reason why today is not the day to start a new med and say I will try it tomorrow.... But it's been almost a week and I can't bring myself to try it. I'm worried about the side effects and feel like I can make myself better by getting back to diet, exercise, and sleep. Diet and exercise are getting back on track, but sleep has been a real problem.

I was prescribed low dose Prozac and it sits in my closet for months now!! My primary has a prescription of Lexapro lowest dose ready for me when I am. She said I can even start with a half of Lexapro daily and I'm still terrified!! And yes I take a whole Xanax if I am real bad as well I worry about addiction and side effects if I take more often. Plus it makes me sleepy. But sometimes I just need that little piece of it.

I have a little experience with CBD...

I was taking it for about a month before I got surgery so then I stopped taking it for a little while, but now I am 100% going to get back on it.

Anyways, when I was on it, when an irrational thought would pop in my head, I would brush it off rather than obsess over it and get anxious thanks to the CBD.

And today, I had probably the worst panic attack I’ve ever had. My arms had pins and needles everywhere, I was so dizzy I thought I was going to pass out, I thought I couldn’t breathe I thought death was approaching me. I took some cbd oil. And about 5-10 minutes later... boom! All dissipated and I’ve been feeling great ever since then (about 3 and a half hours).

Definitely worth a shot!

Hello,

I just started using CBD oil last month and I have noticed significant improvement in my general anxiety and even social anxiety. I have less physical symptoms of anxiety like shaky hands, sweating and I generally feel less anxious about the things that used to make me super anxious before. I find myself being able to stay calm and even mentally telling myself to breathe and relax and stay calm. Since using CBD oil my mood has greatly improved, I can honestly say that I’m happier, I feel more energized, and motivated,I sleep better and I’m more talkative now! I hope I continue to improve as I keep taking it.

If you do decide to try CBD oil I hope it works for you as well!

Hi! I made an account specifically to respond to your question. What I've found to help me with my anxiety and calm me down is very simple, Celestial Seasonings Honey Vanilla Chamomile tea, Prince of Peace Red Panax ginseng, and Emergen-C plus Immunity.

I'm extremely hypersensitive to medications when I'm going through bouts of anxiety. I've never taken any benzos or SSRIs because I'm afraid of the side effects or having rebound anxiety. The things I listed have helped me so much. I went from panicking all throughout the day and staying up googling my "symptoms" and diagnosing myself, to still having anxiety, but being able to think more rationally and actually sleep!!

I drink the Emergen-C and take a shot of ginseng in the morning and I drink the tea at night (2 bags with local honey). Depending on how anxious I am, I'll drink the tea throughout the day and drink a cup at night as well.

I'm starting to feel like myself again. My body is way more relaxed now. I'm getting the feeling of looking forward to things again. The fog I was in is lifting. I'm optimistic that I can beat this health anxiety again.

I hope these suggestions helps someone. If anyone has any questions feel free to ask
