Spinal Stenosis

Hi there......I had a neck and lower back MRI. Saw my neurologist the other day and she diagnosed me with spinal stenosis. My mom did have this but I really don't know much about it. Just know is arthritis that sometimes requires surgery. Anyone here have any input on this?

Hey Gale I have cervical spinal stenosis , I have constant neck pain. My lumbar mri was normal however I also have lower back pain when bending over . I can’t seem to find any relief . What are your symptoms?

Was reading up a bit on the condition. It can run in the family. Which I think you already knew. Can get worse, for some people, over time. So not everybody will feel the same amount of pain as time goes on. Some get it far worse than others. In the post above we read of neck pain. I did read about that as been one of two main parts of the body that they pain occurs in. Case of asking your doctor is there anything you can do to ease any pain that might come as a result of the condition. Can be a gradual thing. One of those that sneaks up on you. Getting worse as the years pass.

My Aunt has this. She was diagnosed with it about 10 years ago at 81. She uses a walker now for the heavy legs and back pain, but still drives and gets around. Obviously, she's 91 now and doing quite well regardless.

Yes that's what I have too. My feet are numb which could be from my back. I just kinda ache all over.

God love your aunt. They say to exercise and do physical therapy. I am 70 so I better start to take care of my self.

She's the absolute best; doesn't let anything get her down. She did PT when she was first diagnosed as surgery was out of the question at her age and it did help her quite a bit. I think if she hadn't gone that route, she might have ended up in a wheelchair, as it is, she's quite happy with the walker.

I have it in my neck. I did once end up with a pinched nerve there that was totally miserable but beyond that it hasn’t been a big issue. I have more issues from the osteoarthritis in my lower back to be honest!

That's good to hear. I've had physiotherapy for a bunch of conditions and it's always worked.
