Sore throat for months now - scared and tried

Im in my early 40s for a past few months i have been experiencing sore throat on one side (right side above Adam's apple) When i swallow it feel like it's irritated but some times when my head is positioned in different angle i dont feel it. I had already two different ENT doctors looking at it through scops and they dont see anything serious. My throat was scoped 5 times already. One doctor says it is post nasal drip that irritates it but none of meds he prescribed works. I'll be getting ultra of my neck next week. Im just tired all its all my anxiety is kicking my butt. Im trying to destract myself with work but was soon as i feel this discouraged my health anxiety kicks into high gear makeing me things that it is some serious cancer

If it has been scoped there is a good chance it is muscular. Posture can wreak havoc on your neck/throat.

Major stress levels can affect the throat. Becoming stressed can bring on illness. Typically headaches but also colds. Its hard to explain but that has happened to me. The best thing to do is try soothing sweets and also massage your throat. That is what i do when i have a sore throat.

You may be going through acid reflux and one of the hidden causes of the irritated throat and postnasal drip is actually reflux.
If you don't treat the reflux you will keep on feeling the postnasal drip effects and sensitive throat.
Mention this possibility to your dr and see what they have to say.

I believe acid reflux iritation would be noticeable through scope. Im just really tired mentally. Every day I wake up with hopes that this is a day when this discomfort is goone. At first i reaked out since doctor google says thiat cancer if its one sided. After numerous visits and 2nd opinion from top ent doctors i was told no signs on cancer, lesion or tumors in mouth down to voice box. Both doctors were every thorough and checked my lymph nodes but nothin unusual. It is so strange that its only that specific side and section.

This was me for about 6 months. I took antibiotics I tried everything I was on a reflux medicine I knew I needed and it still didn't fix it. If this doesn't sound weird would you mind looking in your mouth with a flashlight In poking around your tonsil area with a q-tip. Just see if you notice anything that is white. I discovered on my own it was tonsil stones that were in one tonsil. My ENT found nothing and then I noticed the tonsil stone and I asked him about it in my next appointment he said those suckers get lodged in there and you can't really see him unless you take a q-tip and poke around and try to dislodge them. could totally be different than what I was dealing with but I know what you're going through.
The area you're describing to me is the same area as your tonsil if I'm not mistaken

This time i dont see much of them and my discomfort seems slightly lower than tonsils area. I have been tryig to find to any source that could be describing similar predicament im in but the closes i came up with is something called Glossopharyngeal Neuralgia (GPN) or some kind of tumor inside my neck. Honesty im so tried of it i cannot longer think straight and it's super hard to focus on anything esle.

I do know anxiety can cause throat problems due to tension and unknowingly tightening the muscles but we're you suffering severe anxiety before the onset? And as far as a tumor I believe it would have shown up on the scope you had correct?

I'm definitely going through health anxiety. From my past experience i know that anxiety can do crazy things to your body. I have been struggling with anxiety for about 8 years now. Few years ago i had nocturnal panic attacks. Its not fun to go through that.

He knows my past anxiety at thinks this is the cause but hasn’t got any better. Now on medication to try calm me down a little as I think the worst and won’t cope with bad news comes and goes every day and I am not coping very well

You hit the nail on the head nyc, some things the body does have no logical explanation. For those of us with HA, our personalities are such that we demand logical answers, hence the madness you describe and we so commonly feel.

What are you terrifiied of in this case ?
Think about it and try to make a sense off of it. I know my health anxiety fear is always worst case outcome of the disease im currently thinking I have but try to break it down to yourself why is that. Usually we are afraid of dieing because we are afraid or unknown. When i go to the doctor even though im still in fear i just give up my fear at this moment because i cannot change anything thing so i just go. To me knowing what hurts me and getting specialist testing/checking me gives me an options and control over what is happening.
If there is something sinister and they discover it early it gives you chance to react and take control of it. If not it still is win win because that specific anxiety will quickly disappear. I know i should combine this with mental health care but this is next im planning to do. I went through a lot of bad anxieties and depressions in my life. I qas convinced i had MS, different cancers, hearing loss, colon cancer, you name it and most likely i went through it. Ends up im still around with nothing like that. We have tendency to always look at the worst case scenario. Which it really is. My friend is a doctor and once he told me "stop feeding your fear" that all i do by searching, focusing on what aches me, touching and pressing. It is a dead end street. My recommendation is you should see a doctor to get this checked out just so you clear your mind. If you have something you can get it cured in most of the cases by early detection. If it is nothing than you just forget about you current episode fast. Waiting and focusing on your assumptions it will definitely put your in a deeper mental hole so it is a lose lose situation. I dont know if i make sense but thats how i try to look at my problem. Its not perfect but as a scientist i always try to look logically on any issue i have to deal with in my life or work. Also dont feel alone you have friends in us you can always reach you to me and hopefully i can help you to a some degree. Feel better.

Thank you for your advice, I know in my head I want to go and get checked but if I start to calm down a little I will be able to do it. I am in such a low place right now and medication changed over for my anxiety I just hope it starts to work soon then I can be a bit stronger in my head

I am experiencing similar symptoms on my larynx area and ears which comes and goes, my anxiety has been through the roof lately and I think am dying of cancer, I just don’t know what to do anymore as I am too scared to go and get it checked I will not cope if it’s bad news. Any advice would be appreciated thanks

Im still struggling myself with my throat issue which feels like it got stronger for a past few days but discomfort isnt always there so cannot figure what it is. My next step is cat scan with contrast which I already have approval for i just need to schedule it. My doc told me to hold off with it unless it gets worse because he things it will be just unnecessary radiation. Im just tired mentally.

I was told the same about the CT scans - hold off unless you really need it. Especially because it’s on the throat. It can harm your thyroid.

Thank you for your reply my doctor thinks it’s anxiety but you can’t believe anxiety can cause pain? Comes on all different areas of my throat neck and ears and can be painful at times I hope I can pluck up the courage to go but I am in a bad place just now without any more stress I thank you for speaking to me.How long has this been going on for you? Do they think anxiety is the cause? Thanks again
