Scared to death of getting injected in mouth

Tomorrow I have to go to the dentist and get a cavity filled. The past couple of times I've had a cavity filled, the dentist has been able to numb it with air pressure, but this cavity is so deep he has to use a needle this time. I'm scared to death of needles. Have been my entire life.. When I was a kid I would even run away down the street from shots or blood draws, or need several nurses to hold me down. I've just barely started to be able to get blood drawn IF they do it in my hand, not my arm, with a butterfly needle and my face covered. But a shot in the mouth... I CANNOT do that. I've already pulled every trick in the book to try to get out of getting this cavity filled. I've pretended that my Lyft app wasn't working, and then faked sick twice. If it were up to me, I would much rather just let my teeth rot than get that needle in my mouth. When my appointment was rescheduled for one week ago, I coughed loudly and obviously in the waiting room and dentist chair hoping they would think I had COVID and kick me out. It didn't work, and when the dentist tried to give me the injection, I couldn't do it. He said it was OK, I didn't have to do it that day and we would try again next week (tomorrow). But if I can't do it tomorrow, he's going to send me somewhere were they will actually put me to sleep to get my cavity filled. The thought of getting put to sleep with that mask scares me way more than the needle. Also I'm afraid for my mouth to go numb from the injection. I'm scared of not being able to feel my mouth, and I'm scared of the supposed swollen feeling it gives you. I'm scared it will feel like I'm not able to breathe.

Any advice for me for tomorrow? I seriously don't think I can do it but DO NOT want to get put to sleep. Can anyone tell me about their experiences getting their mouth numbed with a needle? Don't hold back on the details. What does the actual numbing sensation feel like?

Close your eyes and think about something else or close your eyes and count that helps me. You'll be fine. The needle part won't take that long at all. The numbness is the scary part for me.

Might be hard to believe that you feel nothing at all. Nut then again needles don't bother me. I always tell people to pinch themselves. You will feel the pinch more than the needle. Is all in the mind really. I know more than any how much you dislike needles. Maybe even ask can they gas you in advance? You never know. Depends on how much work is been done.

Why does the numbness scare you? I'm also afraid of my mouth going numb.

When numb you feel nothing for a few hours. It is kind of freaky. Touching that side of your mouth with your tongue and having no feeling at all. Feeling comes back. If it was not numb you would feel everything during your visit to the dentist.

Just remember it's perfectly normal to feel nub you are not in any danger. Try the counting thing that I mentioned while having the needle injection you'll do great I promise. Keep us updated :)
