Do you folks have a place of comfort to go to, or do you something that brings comfort when you are dealing with a season of anxiety?

I just need to be alone and try not to bug my wife too much for reassurance.. So at times I’ll get in my car, drive to a local small mall and just park away from other cars, perhaps put on soft music, even classical which this rock guy never thought would happen, and put my seat back and close my eyes..perhaps doze off. I have games I like to play, and watch my (National League champion) Phillies, but when I’m in such a season as you put it, there isn’t much fun in it.

Considering my anxiety has been 24/7 since my early 20’s, there has been no “safe haven.” But since practicing acceptance and my anxiety level has lowered considerably, I consider acceptance to be the most reasonable state of mind/safe haven I have ever experienced.

While creating a safe place to be and being able to relax in it is good, we have eventually to come back to our situation. We can't stay in a safe pace for ever, as much as we would like to. Sometimes it can be self defeating, because we do have to come back, and when reality hits us again it can seem more intense. I'm all for relaxing and feeling 'safe', but let us not stop facing our problem head on and trying to avoid. Books, music, poems and songs can help a lot, but like medication they can only relieve the symptoms, they are not a long term recovery therapy.
