I read the rules and it looks like I am required to do it. They covered up a case of lab fraud last year. I was thinking it would get found out when we got audited by the feds, but there was no mention of it. It's messed up - the QA Manager, the Program Chief AND the Division Director ALL know about the fraud. All they had to do was send out reports saying some lab tests had been misanalyzed and needed to be tested again... but nooo.

I'm not sure about the legality of it - (I'd ask about this somewhere like r/legaladvice on reddit) but always remember HR is always there to protect the company itself, not you.

Reddit legal advise? That sounds fishy. I have been writing about it on a sight for chemists since it happened. They are pretty horrified. I went to law.com and asked some lawyers but they didn't seem to know if I am obligated to report it to the EPA or FBI. Lab fraud is a federal crime - either mail fraud or wire fraud depending on how the results were sent. The lab procedure says to report to HR if for some reason I can't report to the lab administration. I probably should have done that last year before the audit.
