Can anyone relate to rapid heart beat in the morning? This use to scare the begee bees out of me years ago but now I don't get too scared. However, it does bother me to some degree. I sleep pretty well most nights but for some reason when I wake up (in the early am.. 4am, etc), I have a rapid heartbeat. I am in post menopause not sure if this is one of the symptoms. I have heard some women in meopause say they experience this as well.

Many years ago, I would have gone to the ER. But now I lay there and do breathing exercises. It eventually calms down. I think my body is so sensitive right now with all the tension going on. It's like I wake up with Anxiety. Most of the time, if I wake up 4am, I manage to go back to sleep around 6-7am. Thank goodness I am retired.

Yes, I can relate -- though I'm male/61 yo. I have problems with all phases of sleep due to my old buddy Anxiety and his best friend Panic Attack. I often wake up really wound tight, heart thumping, and sweaty. Now that I know I'm "just" having Anx/PA (not dying) I cope with it better. Talking to my doc and making it part of my therapy talk list helped. Maybe you discuss with PCP and he/she checks you out for physical causes, then you can tackle emotional/mental side?

Thanks for your reply. I had it checked out several times, it's anxiety. I use to go the emergency room and they would give me Xanax or Valium and I would be fine. Now when it happens, I just lay there and wait it out. If it gets too annoying, I will take 1/4 valium and end up going back to sleep. I like the way you put "my old buddy Anxiety and his best friend Panic Attack"... LOL. I definitely can relate.
