Before I write this I just want to clarify I am not a doctor, not a therapist or psychiatrist or anything of that nature. This is just what helps me and I want to share in hopes it can help some of you.
STATE OF MIND:
I always remind myself that anxiety is nothing more than a state of mind, nothing permanent and I have the power and ability to alter and change that state of mind to something better. You want to be healthy and happy and do what's best for yourself right? So why would you want to have a bad state of mind? Realize and remind yourself what it is so you can begin to calm down.
EMOTION:
Anxiety is just another emotion of yours. Take for example being angry, when you're in an angry mood, you can get angry at everything. When you're in an anxious mood, you can worry about everything. You will not feel an emotion forever unless you do it to yourself. When you're feeling anxious, you can forget it and keep moving forward, or you can get stuck in the emotions and make it worse. When you're angry, you can move past the anger, or be a stickler and continue to be angry. Same goes for anxiety.
THOUGHT:
Imagine your thoughts like you flowing down a river full of rocks. The rocks are thoughts. The river flow is life. When moving through life day to day, you can continue flowing down the river passing by the rocks, or you can grab onto the rocks because you are afraid of flowing down the river. When you grab onto a rock, you stop your momentum and you cling onto it. When you are going through life, millions of thoughts go through your head, you can either keep moving or obsess over a thought and disrupt your momentum. You cannot control your thoughts, but you can control which ones to think about and what to think of them.
CYCLE:
If you're like me, you've gotten into the habit of just automatically thinking of being anxious. When you wake up, when you're having fun and having a good time, when you're relaxing, etc. You have those thoughts because you got yourself into a habit and almost addicted to that thought. Your good time will be disrupted by that thought and will make you think "have I been feeling anxious this whole time?" or "is this real life?" or "why am I doing this?" or "I hope I don't feel anxious doing that". That automatic thought can and will ruin a good time or an anxious-free streak. This is a cycle that you can't seem to get out of. But you can.
FEAR:
Stop fearing anxiety, it cannot hurt you, it will not kill you. Once you stop fearing it, it will go away. Think about if you were ever afraid of the dark, or spiders or whatever it may be. Once you got over that fear and stopped being afraid, you had no problem with it and it didn't bother you any longer. Remember that.
With everything I have mentioned above, what do they all have in common? Control. You can change and control all of these things. You can reframe your state of mind, you can change and feel other emotions, you can change your thoughts, you can change the habit and you can stop being afraid of anxiety.
Overtime, reminding yourself these things and working on things, your anxiety will get better. It will take some time and it will take commitment, but coming from experience, my anxiety was able to vanish.
Also, other things that helped me:
-Don't think of yourself as being mentally ill or having problems, remind yourself you're getting better and making progress.
-Drink plenty of water everyday (it is proven people who drink more water have improved moods)
-Stay off of google
-Eat a healthier diet that is good for your body
-Practicing breathing
-Take time to relax and do things you enjoy
-Trust you doctor
-Try different (safe) ways of relieving anxiety (essential oils, mindfulness, exercise, etc.)
-Carry on with life normally, don't remind yourself that you're feeling good, it only threw me back in the cycle.
You can apply these things to hypochondria as well. Do not obsess over a feeling or sensation.
This was just my experience and things that helped me through some rough times. I truly hope this will be one of the last times you are on this forum and you take your life back! Are you really going to let some emotion ruin quality time with you kids, family, friends or whatever makes you happy? Practice these things and live your life as if anxiety never existed. Take your life back and don't look back!
One day you will feel normal again and not even think about anxiety anymore.
It will vanish and you will not even realize it's gone.
If you made it this far thank you for reading and I hope this reached and can help at least one person out there!
