Hi. I'm a 48 year old female. I have a hiatal hernia. I got a full physical in June. Everything was perfect. I've taken my pulse many times and it's been spot on.

I've been having palpitations for 5 days. It's 1 skipped beat at a time. It seems to get worse at night when I'm home. I've had some stress at home so I'm figuring it's just anxiety-related like before but this time it seems like it's lasted for too many days. Has anyone else had days worth of palpitations? Or does anyone have a connection between hiatal hernia and palpitations? It's making me scared to death.

Hi, I’m not a doctor of any kind to say whether or not the two are related, but what i can say is I have recently had the same issue (palps). At first they would happen so often they would give me panic attacks and after a while i just dealt with it. It’s been 6 months and i still have them. I’m no longer scared of them and actually prefer them over anxiety any day. I’ve gone to the doctor several times regarding them and had multiple test done, each time coming back normal. I strongly believe they started around the same time i went on the keto diet. I only stayed on that diet for 1 month and they haven’t gone away. My doctor wanted me to go on beta blockers which he says would stop them from happening. I don’t like taking medication. I’ve decided to just accept i have them. Your situation could be stress, anxiety related. I don’t think you should worry about them to much though as most palpitations are not life threatening. I know you don’t like them but eventually they will dissipate. Hope this helps

Thank you for your answer. Half my brain knows that most times they're nothing to worry about but the other half of my brain freaks out. Every time I have one, I freak out. I'm sure it's cycling on itself. I wish there was a way I could accept them. I think if I could, they'd probably stop because I wouldn't keep stressing myself out over them.

Your absolutely right. I did the same thing for about a month and then something changed and i decided they were apart of me now. They haven’t slowed me down in anyway. Sometimes they happen back to back but mostly are a few minutes between each other. I have noticed when i exercise (go for a run) they don’t seem to happen as often. When you notice them just be aware of any changes. I hope they go away for you.

Thank you. I wonder if I'd know if there were any changes. I've been exercising and got a new mattress so my muscles are all different now. Still, it's been 6 days that I've been having them so I would think if it was serious I'd know by now.

Believe it or not (anxiety does not believe it) the body knows how to signal that something is truly amiss, so yes, I think you'd know if something were truly wrong. I've experienced a legitimate cardiac issue before (afib) and despite my long history of harmless palpitations, I somehow knew it was very different. It was similar to my usual palpitations, but also significantly different.

That makes perfect sense to me because that's exactly how I explain my breast cancer lump vs cysts. I could just tell even though they were similar, they were still significantly different. Thank you for that!

I know how hard it is to believe that and put it to use though. It's not easy! I've had days where I would have runs of palpitations. A couple times I've had a whole day of palpitations / flutters two to three minutes apart - I timed them, and it was consistent. I got an appointment with my cardiologist about it. He practically dismissed the entire episode, and his exact words were "these things happen, and they sure are a nuisance aren't they?"

I'm gonna make a guess that these could be perimenopause (hormone) related. They are a common symptom, caused by hormonal shifts. I had bouts of palpitations when I first entered perimenopause (which, unfortunately, was 10 full years before I actually got to menopause).

Mine are not perimenopausal because chemo put me into early menopause. I think they are situational due to living arrangements. Usually I cope. This time I'm ruminating and have all kinds of nasty physical symptoms for the past 2 weeks.
