The incident I had with the fingernail the other day seems to have opened the Pandora's box of HA.

I have a bump that's been on my shin for close to 6-7 year now, as long as I can remember, and it hasn't really bothered me in that time. Fast forward to recently, when I noticed it starting to scab over like a sore. I picked at it and the area grew back but felt bigger than I remember. Not huge but still it sent me to consult Dr. Google who gleefully informed me it might be skin cancer. Yippee.

Going by appearances, it looks to be just under the 1/4'' mark, round as in symmetrical, only one shade of color, slightly raised, but the border is a little faded. The odds seem to be in my favor since I had this thing for a long time and it doesn't seem to fit the cancer criteria, but my mind still wants to think the worst. Exactly how common is this and am I in danger?

I have the same thing around the same area. I went to a Dermatolistgist years ago to have it looked at I forget what he said it was but it's harmless I asked if I should have it removed he said he would just leave it alone.

It wouldn't be a dermatofibroma would it? That's what I'm thinking it could be after mulling it over and looking at the site again.

If it were cancerous, it would have done something to me by now wouldn't it? If I had it for almost 6-7 years?

Yes, I believe that's what it is. If it hasn't changed I wouldn't stress over it. I've picked mine off many time and it just comes back looking the same.

Decided to check out the site just now. It's flatter, pinkish red, honestly looks like a regular sore but like I said, it's been on my shin for years. I've been a bit of a wreck for different matters but now I'm wondering if I'm still okay or if it's some kind of malignancy that'll eventually kill me.

Nah, you are fine. If you are concerned that you may be lacking vitamins in your diet you can always get you a daily multivitamin to take.

Update: There's a dimple in the middle of the spot. I heard it's typical of this kind of growth but in the back of my mind, I'd be lying if I said I wasn't still concerned. Still symmetrical but it looks a tiny bit smaller. No odd colors tho thankfully

I agree, dermatofibroma sounds likely. I have two spots like this, one coincidentally also on my shin. No worries! One of mine seemingly "scabbed over" before, sounds just like yours!

I really need to stop picking at this thing, I picked off the scab again. I'm happy to hear it's normal for dermatofibromas, but I still have that lingering feeling something's amiss. For a period I had forgotten about it but inspected it again. I have a bad habit of poking/prodding/scratching
