Anyone ever get panic attacks during the night when they are asleep. Past 3 nights I’ve been waking up with extreme anxiety, pounding heart, shaking, skyrocketing blood pressure. Not sure why my anxiety has been so bad lately. I usually take magnesium to help it but that’s not even helping anymore. Any recommendations on what to take at night to avoid waking up with another panic attack?

I hear you. I used to like bedtime too. Felt like I was a normal person. Not I have to deal with my anxiety 24/7. How often do you get these nocturnal panic attacks?

I used to wake up in panics from time to time, not exactly a full blown panic attack like I would have when I was awake. But disoriented mostly with a pounding heart, out of my wits, ya know. I rarely have them now but I also am on a slow a acting benzo which makes for restful sleep most of the time. But oddly enough I get up sometimes and my heart still pounds some.

Maybe you can try some guided sleep meditation videos on YouTube? They help you relax and fall asleep with positive thoughts. Helps to clear the mind of any anxiety that may be lurking.

I tried this, even joined Calm. It’s calming but doesn’t touch my panic attacks.

I just had one of those the other night... Could not sleep, and the harder I tried, the more challenging it became... Those night time wake up to racey heart issues are common from all I'm reading everywhere... You feel as though you are having a heart attack or you start to question weather your heart can take it or not (causing more anxiety)

The good news is, this stuff never lasts... you'll get these episodes and they can go on an on for 3-5 days keeping you awake at night often but then suddenly, they go away... You'll notice when you have good, peaceful sleep, it's best.. also, don't eat these foods past 6pm at night as they can cause you some insomnia -

- fresh salmon or dense fish
- beef (esp tri tip)
- high sugary foods
- high sodium foods
- greasy foods
- Avocado

Avoid those foods or eat them more during the day... gives the body a chance to digest.

You may need to seek spiritual help if you cannot find a beginning and underlying issue to panic attacks. Maybe your brain is on high alert during the night and giving you false signals to worry you. Try spiritual help.
