Hi everyone I wanted to share with you my experience with depression. I am currently 27 years old. I have been diagnosed with depression back when I was about 18 or 19 years old. I believe to my knowledge that I have had it just about as long as I can remember. I have heard that depression can commonly run in families. My Father had been diagnosed with it many years ago. And though my Mother doesn't seek medical help for it, I do strongly believe that it is possible she has it as well.
I would say most of the time I would suffer from moderate depression. Sometimes major depression. I started different medications to treat my depression when I was around 18 years old or so. I admit that it has helped me somewhat. I noticed a slight improvement in my mood. Though I hadn't ever found anything that works. I have tried various different medication and found that most wasn't helping me too dramatically anyways.
I recently was prescribed Zoloft to help treat my depression. I have now been on it a little over a couple months. Before that I had found that cymbalta had seemed to be the best at treating my depression. I had been taking cymbalta for a few years. It helped with my depression to some extent. I would say on a scale of 1-10 on my daily avg. mood with 1 being the lowest and 10 the highest. I would say without any medication my mood would tend to be 1-2 maybe occasionally it would be a 3 for the most part. When I was on cymbalta for a few years my mood would tend to be at about a 3-4 most of the time.
With Zoloft I have noticed that I have had bursts of happy moments and would say more often than not, I would rate my mood at about an 8 on average maybe 6 on a bad day and closer to 9 or so on a good one. Now I haven't been on Zoloft long. It is possible that my body is just adjusting to the new medication, but I am hoping that it is something that is really helping out my depression.
In combination with taking Zoloft I also have been going to my doctor who is also a hypnotherapist, for the last 6 months or so. I believe that a combination of the Zoloft and hypnotherapy has greatly improved my depression. Maybe about 2 years ago while I was on Cymbalta I was also going to a talk therapist. I had seen her for about a year in a half with little to no improvement noticed by me through our sessions. With hypnotherapy I tend to go in for about 30 min. at least twice a month. Sometimes once a week when I am able to. And our sessions last about 30 min. or so. My past talk therapy sessions would be about 1 hour 2-4 times each month, about 1 a week to every other week most of the time.
I also have done some things at home that seem to have helped me out a bit as well.
I would love to help other people in dealing with and hopefully improving there depression. I can offer my experiences that I have had as well as any advice as well as support. I'm looking forward to getting to know everyone and am excited to be here.
